Topic Other Boards / Foo / The Grand National! - Place your bets :D
- By HuskyGal Date 07.04.06 12:38 UTC
Anyone for a wee CD 'sweepstake'? :D

Im torn have narrowed it down to:
1.Clan Royal (because of Jonjo O'neil, a sentimental Cumbrian thing)
2. Amberleigh House (again, sentimental Ginger McCain's Swansong! *sob*)
or do I back
Nina Carberry who is  the first female jockey to ride against her Brother in the same National!!! (she's a good Irish amateur WTG!)

But, for the fun of it I think my bet goes to
Ross Com as its a Grey (ladies always pick the Greys ;) ) and trained by Harvey Smiths wife :D

(Im not telling you who my 'real' money is on!!! :D)
so any other Punters?????????
- By Carla Date 07.04.06 12:56 UTC
Yep :D I have backed 4
I've had a sentimental flutter on Amberleigh House :)
- By Brunodog Date 07.04.06 12:57 UTC
Oooh excuse me for being a bit thick but is it the Grand National this weekend?
- By Carla Date 07.04.06 12:58 UTC
Yes, Saturday afternoon
- By Brunodog Date 07.04.06 12:59 UTC
Oh cool :D
- By Pipkins Date 07.04.06 13:16 UTC
In sisters shop there all backing a bit of everything.

Been a few on on Clan royal and Hedgehunter. Might try me luck on them.

Few have mentioned Inca Trail.
- By rachelsetters Date 07.04.06 13:42 UTC
I was exactly the same as you - didn't really know it was here so soon!!
- By Soli Date 07.04.06 13:29 UTC
Hedgehunter is the in form horse having won it last year and being second in the gold cup last month.  Dunno if he can do it again though - but IMO he's the class horse in the race.

(probably means he'll be brought down  ) LOL

I gather he's lost a bit of weight - not sure if that is good or bad but I have backed him anyway.

I am a sentimental old fool :D
- By LJS Date 07.04.06 13:45 UTC
Innox or Garvivonnion has my money ;)
- By spellmaker [gb] Date 07.04.06 14:03 UTC
Right HuskyGal listen up
The first four in no particular order will be
Direct Access
Garvivonnion
Ross Comm
Innox
Place your bets now  very large glass of wine to the winner here tomorrow evening 7.30 cheers.
- By Pipkins Date 07.04.06 14:11 UTC
Think I might try my luck with Ross Comm or Garvivonion.

However I'm hopeless, so might just keep my eye on what the punters are backing & see if they can bring me any luck.
- By HuskyGal Date 07.04.06 14:19 UTC
Lol @ the debs inadvertent *hex* on Poor old Hedgehunter now ;)

Im debating now wether to go 'High stakes' and bet a whole fiver!!
OH does serious bets and then has a tantrum when I win lots on my measly £1/£5 bets :D :D
Misspent youth at Cartmel races (where there's only ever 3 horses to a race :D) my dad taught me well with my bag of 50p's for bets. (I got pretty good on the Trail Hounds too! :D)
- By JaneG [gb] Date 07.04.06 14:18 UTC
I am hopelessly sentimental with my horse racing betting so I'm going for an each way on Royal Auclair and Cornish Rebel :)
- By liberty Date 07.04.06 14:51 UTC
Yup its Cornish Rebel for me and Nil Desperandum.....just loved the name:cool:
- By inca [gb] Date 07.04.06 16:15 UTC

- By STARRYEYES Date 07.04.06 16:31 UTC Edited 07.04.06 16:33 UTC
we all know its on in Liverpool fed up hearing about it LOL
OH working today and  tomorrow (Railway)(ladies day is halarious(SP?) he said they watch all the ladies in thier fancy clothes leaving then they watch them coming back as pi**ed as newts ) he says thats the best bit!!!...so he is dreading it ...the traffic is horrendous in town and around Aintree which also means I cant get anywhere near pets at home (the only one in Merseyside).

plus I dont like the national ..too many horses or maybe I'm just being coby..LOL

Getting excited now :D :D
- By Soli Date 08.04.06 13:04 UTC
Man I do wish they wouldn't play the music from "Champions".  As SOON as I hear it I start to blub!! LOL  Had a huge lump in my throat watching the parade of past winners - they looked so lovely -  most of them all woolly where they'd been living out bless 'em :D

I just hope it doesn't get too slippery as the rain's lashing down up there!!  I'm sat here with the back door open and blazing sunshine LOL

*raises a glass to all those brave horses and hope they all come back safe and sound*

My OH has bet on Lord of Illusion. He never wins :(
I always seem to win something so I have chosen Risk Accessor and Just in Debt :)
Son has chosen Joes Edge as he has a boy in his class called Joe
As you said Debs hope all the horses come home Safe.
- By Soli Date 08.04.06 15:52 UTC
Yay I didn't put the mockers on Hedgehunter!! LOL  Thought he was going to win at one point.

Glad to hear all the horses are ok :D

It is sad news but that is what National Hunting is about :) Some win but some unfortunately loose and some loose their lives :)

The two I had , one fell and one was pulled up
- By spellmaker [gb] Date 08.04.06 17:30 UTC
Guess what
Our telly conked out I think the arial has moved or come adrift could hear the race but only see snow.
Now what am I going to do until monday when Ariel Man can come AND it,s only Graham Norton and the new dancing thingy tonight isn,t it:mad::mad::mad:
- By Soli Date 08.04.06 17:42 UTC
Hubby placed his first ever bet on the race...  went out at the first! LMAO  He lost interest after that LOL

His best mate and I sit and watch the racing together as we're both fans - so if he wants to join in he has to sit there with his mate and I boring him silly with race facts and trivia :D

He decided to go for this horse after watching an interview with Micky Fitz and thought he was a top bloke - what a way to pick a horse LOL
