You'll remember me hunting for Ski clothes for my 16 year old daughter. Well she went to the US ski-ing on Tuesday but she called me last night in tears which is not like her at all. Her boots were really hurting her feet, and she just didn't like the ski-ing. They have however insisted they ski for the 4 hour slot.   I don't think I have heard or seen her crying in years , honestly.   You think they would not insist they ski.

I was crying at her crying , I feel so awful and a bit helpless but she doesn't want me to call the school.  She said she will be OK.. You can imagine how that tugged my heart strings.

I put £20 in her phone so she could text me till her heart is content but she tried to send me a text and some error happened as it kept trying to send the same message over and over again and it used all her money :-(

She is my only baby and can't help worry about her being home sick. She is with her best freind at least.

I just pray she calls me tonight and feels better. She is away for a week.

Aww bless her.  A lot of it may be due to home sickness and perhaps jet lag could be making things seem worse for her too.  I'm sure once she's 'settled' over there she'll be ringing you telling you all about the great time they're all having :)

Think so, she kids on she is a big girl but I know she is used to having me around.

Ahh Pam poor DD :(

A bad case of home sickness :)

I am sure she will be fine ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.04.06 15:53 UTC
Poor girl! :( Has she been away from home before? Homesickness could have a lot to do with it. :(

My son was the same when he went to stay at a sports camp for a week - I was reminded of this ...

She has been away before but I think she does occasionally get home sick.

I just felt so helpless. Hard being a parent at times eh?

She was homesick when we went to Florida in Oct and I was with her. SHe slept in my bed the first night. Bless.. I think you get worse as you get older then settle down a bit.

My speakers are dead on my PC so need to listen to it on my laptop later :-)

Hi Blue,

depends where her feet are hurting..ski boots (especially the ones from Hire places!) are not the most comfortable of things unless fitted properly. Poor Love, I can imagine its miserable if they ache.
A bit of ache is natural in her calf/shin/thighs :)
But if its her feet..then tell her to go back to the hire shop and speak to a 'boot tecnician' they will be able to fit 'arches' in the boot to help support her feet better, and stop the hurt. she shouldnt suffer in silence, bless.
HTH :D

She is awful for not speaking up for herself ( unlike her mother ;-) )

I hope she calls me later.

THis is when the private jet would come in handy :-D

I went skiing for the first time this year and had a lesson before we went.  I could only stand about 5-10 minutes of the lesson because my boots were killing me.  The instructor told me to change them and to make sure that when we were on holiday that the boots fitted properly.  I had to go up a size to my normal shoe size and it was such a relief.

Even though your daughter doesn't want you to phone the school you must as her whole experience and opinion of skiing might change if she could only change her boots.

I have spoken to my kids' schools on the QT a few times and they have always kept a confidence when I've asked them to.

I gave the teacher a call on their mobile, I didn't get them but left a message saying I have never known for her to be so upset and I know she won't speak up. Fingers crossed. She said she would call me tonight and let me know how today went.

I wasn't fussy on her going as I hate them being away from home  but she wanted to go.  ( I know I need to let her grow up)

Awww Pam,  sorry you are going through such a worrying time right now.  She will be fine, it's you who will feel worse.  She will come home full of it and all the fun she has had.  It will be early days nerves and probably tiredness.

Waste of time saying don't worry because of course you will worry, but she will be home soon.

She just called me and said she had a better day today. She got different boots and didnt' ski as much as the day before. She sounded a lot better.   Such a worry kids are . I just hate her being so far away. Husband keeps kidding about the peace but he doesn't mean it.

No loud stereo of constant keyboard typing from the study on that messenger :-D

Glad to hear all's well Blue! :D
- By Blue Date 06.04.06 22:18 UTC
She has been on the phone again to tell me to stop worrying about her :-) I think it turns out the ski instructor on the first day was a bit hard with them also. He said that a few of them were a waste of space.:mad: She has never been ski-ing before. Think they forget who pays their wages.  She said she fell 50 times yesterday and just once today :-D

Bless her.

I am redoing her room whilst she is away for a suprise for her.
- By HuskyGal Date 06.04.06 22:20 UTC
will you adopt me Blue!!!! :D :D
(If her ski intructor was good looking bet it would be a different story!! ;) )
- By Blue Date 07.04.06 06:41 UTC
:-D :-D   I said that to her myself :-)

These trips are a bit of a larky I think the cost of them by the time she got all her Ski clothes and equipment, new clothes, spending money cost of the trip it wasn't honestly far off £2K so I do hope she enjoys is.

>He said that a few of them were a waste of space

How nasty and inconsiderate!!

At least our sexy French ski instructor, Eric, was polite when he said to me and OH "tomorrow you go and change your lessons for private one to one lessons" I said to OH, "oh no we've related from beginners class to numpties class" :D :D  There were only 7 inthe beginners class to begin with but Eric had met his match when OH and I turned up. :D

When my eldest went to Lake District for a week when she was 11, I thought I handled it all very well.  She only rang once and I told myself that was good and showed she was having a good time.  When I went to pick her up though I surprised myself by crying as I saw the coach come round the corner.  You can't help but worry
- By Blue Date 07.04.06 06:46 UTC
Oh I know what you mean, she is at the stage just now were she argues with me all the time at home but as soon as she is out the door she texts me every 10 mins about something. :-) I am a real softy.
- By Blue Date 07.04.06 06:45 UTC
:-D :-D wished I had known I would have volunteered to go...:-)
- By Blue Date 07.04.06 06:44 UTC
:-D :-D remember when I was her age I went on holiday to a big campsite with static caravans and one of the guys who worked there was very " new wave/ulternative " in type , just my type. I fell head over heals in love with him.

Hormones eh? :cool::cool:

She is growing up Pam, next it will be the boyfriends, that you dont like, none are good enough in parents eyes LOL!!!!! We as parents need to keep our thoughts to ourselves a lot of the times, ive had to accept son-in-laws that I couldnt stand, I saw the way they treated my daughter from day 1, but, of course she couldnt, so had to stay quiet for her sake and was there as a shoulder to cry on when things went wrong, in one instance only 3 months after she got married, he had an affair with my daughters oldest daughters friend. !!!! now that was hard to contend with.

16 already she was only about 11/12 last time I saw her.  Going through the teenage tantrums yet,!! LOL!!!!!  Mind you my oldest granddaughter will be 20 this year!!!!

I suddenly feel old Irene. I was down the town Centre with her on Monday before she went and it just seemed like yesterday that I was her. Funny how time goes by.

Awful shame about your daughter's marriage , I try to see some positive in these situations if that is possible hopefully make a better her and she will find a lot better person.  :-)
