grooming a spanish water dog? ive got one coming in for grooming. what do you think would be a fair amount to charge?

I don't know but do you know how to groom one??  I presume because you are saying "groom" that you don't?

I produced a leaflet last week for a demonstration that I did at the weekend you are more than welcome for me to e-mail it to you if you wish?

Where are you based?  Maybe one of my pups that you are doing.

Just a quick note of what to do though.

SWD's should NEVER, EVER be brushed or combed!!!   If it's for a clip, then it's an all off clip, head, ears, legs etc. to be the same length all over.  If you are just tidying up the dog then it's a case of cording the dog, though I doubt that many grooming parlours would take the time to do it properly.  That is nothing against grooming parlours, I just mean to do it properly you would need a lot of time and the coat needs to mat before cording and most grooming parlour would just clip a matted coat.

hi my email is one my profile would like to read the leaflet, im based in brighton but the owner is an american lady that has just moved here and she said that she has brought the dog with her and i dont know where she got the dog from he is quite old as well nearly 12 from what she said that it does not have a curly coat it has a soft wavy coat like a labradoodle and she has had it trimed in a puppy cut( a 1inch trim all over) most of the dogs life  maybe its a cockerpoo not a swd

Oooh, give her my details.  This dog would of had to have been an original import from Spain if it's that age as they haven't been in America for all that long.  They've been in this country for almost 14 years, America I would think for about 10 years if that.

If it's not got a good coat then just a same length all over clip with some length to it would be fine and as Terri said maybe just scissoring of the head to keep it tidy, but not to let it look like a Poodle or a Bedlington as most groomers seem to do.

I'll send you some photo's etc. when I get home.

Ooh, yes please would love to see what he looks like.  I have a 12 year old SWD who is still extremely fit, so fit that when people see her they think she's a puppy.

Unfortunately she's starting to go slightly senile in the last few weeks, but her heart and her brain for retrieving are still going strong.

when you say grooming do you mean to clip the coat off.

the coat should not be any short than a 7mm to 3 mm blade you keep the coat on the face and head long i would hand cut round that area clip the ear off and under neath they do get matted

only sampoo themthen in luke warm water they coat is more like wool than hair,

if you want more details you can call me on 01252310267

i pay £20 at the local collage for the girls to be bath and clipped
