is it me or is the world completely bonkers ? - I was walking two of my girls along the river bank - a lovely 2 mile walk in the sunshine - we get to the first bridge and a large 4X4 pulls up - out jumps a l black lab which proceeds to do a wee and a poo then jumps back in the 4X4 and is driven away ( presumably home). The poor animal's 'walk' must have lasted all of 10 minutes - what IS the matter with people ? one of the great pleasures of dog ownership is surely all those lovely walks - or is it me that's out of synch ?

Grin... well...it was only 'presumably' home... it might have been crossing its legs and let out early before they got where they wee heading BUT chances are, yes.... its a crazy world! Judges write week after week in our breed (labradors) about dogs under them in 'hard condition' or 'working condition' without a clue about the fact that if that dog WAS in working condition proper, it would not have been placed and in the judges mind would probably have 'lacked substance' ;-) So yes, so many dogs are less fit than they used to be.... so many are 'car walked' as we call it here ;-)

I see that every time I walk my dogs. People drive up to the park/woods, let the dog out whilst they stand waiting by the car, then 10 minutes later they leave again.

mine are walked 2 - 3 hours a day, sometimes more at weekends come rain or shine, I cant understand why anyone would want a dog if they arent going to walk it

Blimey - thats good going ;-) I'd say thats twice what mine are and they are working gundogs ;-)

ive seen that alot too, me & OH (& Flo) love nothing more than our walks, last saturday we walked the 5 miles around Elan Valley- midwales, only half hour drive and beautiful, the dams were overflowing and the wind was raw, but its was a fab day, and Flo loved it now the legs better! so yes- we drove there but, walked a fair way, just nice to have a change of scenery :)

I feel guilty because I work all day, so make up for it with loads of walks, training and games when im not at work :rolleyes:

Yes to me walking is one of my pleasures rather than a chore

If it was a healthy adult dog getting its main walk then this was sad.  But perhaps it was a young dog not yet able to do long walks.  My girl is so big people can't comprehend she is only a pup, so one of her walks is to a field in the car, a 15 min run round and home.
Or perhaps it has had an op or has a medical condition that only allows minimum exercise.
There could be many reasons some also being what others have suggested too.

Ohh no - not a poo bag in sight :D - dog was a very portly middle aged neutered  lab - ran up to say hello to my two and would have been quite happy joining in with their walk - I think this is probably his rountine as he automatically jumped back in the car when he had 'finished'. Hope he's got a HUGE garden to run about in as an alternative but I suspect it's an immaculate square of green - hence the trip to the river to avoid any mess ending up in the des res ;) !!

Ah yes, an absolutely classic case of NIMBY syndrome! Only why sully their own suburban heaven when there's a whole countryside out there to dump in instead? I expect these are the same sort of people who drive their expensive cars down my lane whilst throwing items of household rubbish into the hedgerows too.
