I have a 7 month old puppy who has started limping on her front left leg.  She did the same about 2 months ago and my vet did a full set of x rays and could find nothing. She has now gone lame again.  Is this something that she will grow out of? Will she always have a weakness in this leg? Can I do anything to help?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Can someone also recommend a good book that covers dog health issues so that I do not have to run to my vet when anything is wrong and I can become a little better informed about my dog's health.

It sounds very like panosteitis. She should grow out of it. A useful vet book to have is "Veterinary Notes for Dog Owners". :)

Have you not thought about seeing an animal chiropracticetioner (sp)? Sometimes there can be a very small problem and just want some reinlinement (sp)? :-)

We are having the same problem with our pup, but he's lame on his right hind leg. The vet took 2 separate sets of x-rays but couldn't find anything abnormal. They are suspecting slipping patella because toy breeds are predisponed to this condition.
What breed is your dog Caroline?

Have you noticed is its worst when it's cold and wet? after sleeping? is the dog lame all the time or is it intermitten? is the dog in pain and/or discomfort?

I wouldn't personaly like to give medication to my dog without knowing what's wrong :-(

Our dog's been lame since January, he had a period of one week when he stopped limping and his limping is intermitten.

I will speak with the vet regarding hydrotherapy or acupuncture next week.

Hope it's nothing serious with your dog and hope it gets better soon:-)

She is a tibetan terrier.  It does seem worse after sleeping.  She is fine in herself and today she is not limping. Been to the vet today and he is going to leave her be at the moment but will repeat the x rays if needed.
