I have this problem with one of my dogs, she seems to have a problem digesting the mixer as it is quite dry. I am just trying to find out what I can feed her instead - just canned meat on it's own isn't good enough and to be honest I'm going to move them both on to something a bit more 'quality'! In the morning she gets 'Highlife' which comes in sachets, it's like little morsels, and she has no problem with that but I don't want to feed her solely on that as I know she will not feel like she's getting a big enough meal (she's a hungry labrador!). They get Naturediet at their kennels and seem to do well on it so I might give that a go.

Try a wetter food and see how it goes, if there's no improvement then a trip to the vets I think - good luck!

I rareky critiscise peoples choice of food, but ahve to make a comment about the hi-Life.  Is it the plastic like mince pieces.  If so it is very high in sugar, whch dogs don't need at all.  In the ingredients list it won't say sugar it will say fructose and various other ose's.  I only use the little sachets for treats for mine as one or two morsels won't so any harm, but I would not feed it as food.

Not taken as a criticism, I dare say whatever food I choose someone on this board would take issue with it, and I do appreciate your comment.

My problem is Millie is not a typical lab - she will not eat absolutely anything I put in front of her (now, if I let it fester on the street or in a field for a few days she might consider it!). We used to feed her Hills but of course she couldn't cope with the dry, so we moved on to trying other things. She doesn't solely get hilife, she does get meat, fish, mixer etc. I'm off down the pet supermarket tomorrow anyway to see what else I can get as I really want to get her on to naturediet -I just hope they have some in. I know a lot of people here buy it in bulk but I don't think we really have the space to store it, I need to do some research on quantities etc.

Thanks!

Just out of interest. What type of eater is he. Does he take his time or is he a wulf it all done in 10 seconds. I only ask as my bitch when she was young would eat too quick and regularly be sick. I used to put objects (safe ones) in her food bowl so she had to nudge through them to get to the food. This managed to slow her down and steady her eating. Just a thought. I never feed dry. I rinse out the tin with boiled water so it makes a gravy and pour it over the biscuits. Leave for a couple of minutes before feeding. Just a thought.
You don't say how old he is and how long you've had him but say for instance you've had him for quite a while and he's been fed on his diet for quite a while. I would just maybe pop him down the vet just to get him checked out. There would be a reason why he's just started doing this but it is continuing to happen if everything else has remained unchanged.

Try cutting down the amount of food per meal and increasing the amount of meals per day - little and often may just help ease the sicking-back-up of the food :)

It could be because he's wolfing his food down too fast or taking in a lot of air with his food.  If so, you could try putting the dry part of his food in a dog treat ball, it's hard to scoff when you have to push a ball around to get the food out :)
