Hi I have been lurking around for a while but not posted much.
I have a 3 year old bitch how has done quite well in the ring without really reaching her full potential(sp). Now she seems to have lost her spark all together, she stands well, is good on the table but when she moves there is just nothing there. I think that some of this is down to handling but how do we make it more fun and get that spark back that she needs to start winning again.

It could be she's bored - have you been doing a lot of showing? Sometimes taking a year out helps them regain their enthusiasm.

Hi beagler, I think that bitches are more prone to this than dogs.  A couple of my friends are experiencing it with their bitches.  If she is getting fed up with the whole performance, perhaps you could give her a bit of a break (tho' I expect you have recently as not so many shows to go to at the moment) maybe just do champ shows.  Or, perhaps it's worth thinking about getting someone else to handle her for you for a bit.  That might get her back on her toes?  Perhaps take up another activity as well, perhaps agility.  Good luck

We have not been showing much as she had a litter back in November her last show before that was late August. She has never been brill at movement but when she does move she is very good, but very hit and miss. We have been to 2 shows this year she moved ok both times but ok is not good enough in a class of 8 or so.

We do agility and she love that 100 miles an hour all over the place when she goes clear nothing can touch her but becaue she goes flat out clear rounds are not that often. She won at one event by over 3 secs when she went clear.

There is also the case that some dogs just hate showing and always will whether you take a break or not. My older bitch would do what I asked of her (I hardly showed her) and she did ok but there was no spark in her eye. Gave up in late Junior and turned her to agility/flyball. She loves it. My younger boy is completely the other way. You show him his show collar and he is trying to nudge his nose through it, gagging to get out there. He's a true showoff and many people have commented how he just shows himself.

My old bitch that I lost last year, turned that way after her litter & no amount of jiggying her up would make her move any faster than she wanted too, so I gave up trying & wasting entry fees.  I had her daughter to show and laterly her granddaughter & son, who love showing.
