I had to take Breeze to the vet on saturday as she is ripping out her fur in one place. It turns out that she has a hot spot from an allergic reaction to a flea bite. To stop her going for it as she has been so it has time to heal, I have had to put her in a buster collar and she looks so sad.

Has anyone had the problem with a hot spot and how long does their itchiness last. (I have cream to put on)

poor breeze. One of mine had an allergic reaction to a shampoo and ended up with red inflammed itchy skin. She was really restless and scratchy, but the vet gave her a steroid jab, and within a few hours she'd stopped the scratting. I'm not quite sure what to suggest on this one. Could you not leave the collar off when you're in, and distract her with a treat or something when she goes to scratch / pull at her fur?

I've had one once on one of my Collies, from a red ant bite. On advice from other breeders, I clipped the fur away a bit, cleaned it and then used antiseptic powder (dries it out, don't fancy the cream) and it was clear in no time.

M.

Edited to add, the powder seems to soothe it, and she was fine without a buster collar, but this may be a dog by dog case LOL.

I had a dog Cuervo got one I think from the shampoo or a bug bite, she never left it alone. We tried creams and my vet decided to give her a steriod shot I believe which stopped her from biting it straight away.

One of mine got one of these on her TAIL, and the tail swelled up so badly the vet said it was cutting off the blood supply and she'd lose her tail.  I spoke to her breeder and she said to use Calendula cream. I did, and it got better almost immediately, all healed up, far more effective than what the vet had given her. :) Never been without it at home since. Boots sell it.
