Hi, my pups are now coming up for 6 weeks old, gosh time flies. I have now weaned them pretty much completely, mum does pop in and give them a little taster but not for long. I started them off with jwb puppy soaked in whelpi and gradually made it thicker. They are now happy to eat it totally dry. Do any of you feed it dry at this age or do you think I should carry on soaking it slightly. They are drinking the water ok. They don't always eat it all at once. Should I take it away or leave it for them to graze on. Any help would be much appreciated. Louise

I do the same as you, dry by 6 weeks, water constantly available of course. I would not leave food down that is not eaten straight away.

I never feed dry food completely dry, even when the dogs are adult. Making sure they drink 70% extra water (to replace the liquid lost in the drying process) would be too stressful. :)

Hi, Yeah I would say pups are fine on dry food by six weeks (mine have always been on dried food by 6 wks).
As Isabel says make sure they have water always available! x
why not just mix a little water in- to just coat the kibble?

Why? You can if you want to :) but I've never had a puppy who's thirst mechanism failed and they seem to really enjoy crunchy stuff.

Hi there chrisjack...
Because there is actually no need! A six week old pup is quite capable of eating its food dry, however choosing to soak the food is a personal choice which I chose not to do by this age!
