My bitch had her second litter last friday, the pups are now 9days old, there was a dark discharge for a few days, she was vet checked and fine, but the discharge has started again, doesn't smell is a light red/brown but seems freshish blood, this didn't happen with her first litter, is this normal ?  Her gums are slightly pale, but she's eating, drinking and doing a fabulous job with the pups, any suggestions ?

I would definately phone the vet particulary as regards the pale gums.

Hi, my bitch had puppies over 5 weeks ago and is still getting a bloody discharge, spoke to vet and he said that it is perfectly normal and can last up to 6-8 weeks. Hopefully it will stop soon as cleaning up after pups 24/7 is enough to contend with. So a slong as it does not smell offensive I think it is probably perfectly normal.

I think the discharge is normal, the pale gums isn't, good luck at the vet, let us know how you both get on.

Did you look at her gums before this?  Just that a few people I've known have been worried about their dogs gums to find out later that they were really their natural colour.

If the discharge is a bloody discharge I wdn't worry about it, my girls always lose blood up to 4 weeks after having their litters.

BUT ANY WORRIES JUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE VETS.
