Where do all you raw feeders get your meat for your dogs? I know about AMP/prize choice, who else? :-)

I'm using a great local butcher who delivers to me from slaughter house (delightful huh!! ;) )
But I used Landywoods in the past and found them great, dont know where you are in the country Collie, as delivery is difficult in some places but check out their website here www.landywoods.co.uk see what you think.
HTH :D

I looked at landywoods and they looked ideal but I have heard some less than favourable reports so the jury is still out on that one. I have spoken to a good old fashioned butcher today, I go past his shop every day travelling to and from work and he can supply me with lamb bones and he is going to speak to the poultry farmer/supplier tomorrow about chicken/turkey necks and carcasses so I am waiting to see if he can do it and how much it will cost me. Landywoods are not that far from me, about 50 miles I think and as I grew up in that area I know exactly where they are and I could collect if necessary. I am going to hunt out my BARF book this week to and try and read through it again, it is such hard going filtering out his anti pet food manufacturers rants LOL. I tried to give my dogs a raw diet a few years ago and the raw bones made one of them ill.  I have been giving them chicken wings for the last few weeks and have had no problems so I am going to try again, he could eat everything but the marrow bones that I  was given at the time and I have been told that they can be a problem so fingers crossed that I can change them all over.

I use landywoods, they are fantastic ive never had a problem with them, infact now I have changed jobs and cant get home for the delivery the driver even puts it in my freezer for me

I use Landywoods ~ meat is far superior to that manufactured by AMP (IMO)   I live 22 miles from Landywoods so do go & collect it although they have delivered to me a couple of times when I was ill & there was no problems at all

The meat I feed is all aimed at the human market bar green tripe.  I get mine from wholesalers and can get chicken wings for circa 26p per pound, supermarkets at the end of the day have short dated stuff which can be real bargains for the freezer and of course there are farmers markets, abbatoirs etc etc etc

I have found a pet store about 20 miles away that will supply green tripe so I am going over there next week to get some. The butcher I spoke to earlier in the week rang me today to tell me that he can supply as many chicken carcases as I want and I can have lamb bones for free, he is going to save them up during the week for me to collect each friday. I am going to speak to him about other things too as he was really helpful and full of praise for this as a method of feeding, supose he would be, he is a butcher LOL I have never even used this chap for meat not even for me so I am very impresssed with him, he does game and also kangaroo, bison and wild boar meat. There is a sign in his window about "well hung beef" that always makes me chuckle but I have been told that this is better so I am going to try some of his meat for me next week when I got to collect the dogs stuff. Very pleased :-D I am still working my way through the books again but this time they make more sense than they did before, not sure why that is and I have been speaking to friends who have been doing this for years. I really wasn't ready last time I tried this and gave upfar to easily, this time I am determined to stick with it and get it right:cool:

Thats great news Collie :D
Ive got a really good link (regarding unusual meats, venison etc) It has tables that tell you the Kcal/Kj and protien etc etc etc content of meats/offal/veg etc
Its easy to use might be of interest to you if you fancy gettin' 'exotic'! will PM it to you.

My Hounds are fed on fresh heart, kidney, chicken and so on with some vegtables as well! Again bought from the butchers, market stall or the supermarket. I stew it all in a big pot twice a week!

The hounds love it and no preservatives or additives either ;-)

You cook it all?
- By HoundHam [gb] Date 02.04.06 10:26 UTC
Yep ALL with vegtables (would not fancy hard veg myself LOL!) .....the Hounds also have all the juices in their meal that has been cooked!! Thats my way and the hounds like it like that ;-)

Not criticising you just curious as to why you cook any of it  :) I blend raw veg to a mush and add it to the raw meat :)
- By HoundHam [gb] Date 02.04.06 10:42 UTC
I would not like raw heart myself, but I do cook pasta and rice with it...could not put those in a blender LOL! Maybe I spoil my hounds but that is the way I prefer to do it. Personal preferance that`s all ;-)

>I would not like raw heart myself

Me neither, but my dogs love it raw. Then again, I wouldn't eat heart at all, nor fox poo or rotting rabbit corpse but my dogs seem to find them extremely palatable ;)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 02.04.06 13:41 UTC
I'm sure that mine would like the meat cooked too - but as I'm too lazy to cook it and they'd probably go totally cuckoo while I cooked it, they get everything raw :D :D They haven't objected yet :D :D

Nor would I want to cook fox poo or rotting rabbit corpse!! LOL

As I have said before I do cook the fresh meat, veg and pasta this is my PERSONAL Preferance. ;-)

and yes my hounds too like to eat sheep poo and so on!

I use Landywoods and havent had any probs so far - I would recommend them.

the butcher has turned out to be absolutely fantastic. The chicken carcases have all the back meat on them and a fair bit of the breast too, the dogs are loving them. The have also had some very nice lamb breast from him too, certainly went down well. The same butcher is going to get me some rabbits for them to have as a change, they are ferreted rather than shot so there will be no pellets to worry about. I have tried some of his meat for me and WOW, very good, I have some nice welsh salt march lamb chops in the fridge for my dinner today, lovely. If anyone here is in warwickshire/worcestershire area and wants to know where this guy is then PM me, he really is brilliant. It may cost me slightly more to get my stuff from him but I would rather he had my money. He has been such a great help and very willing to try and find things that he normally doesn't get, there is also a cute lad behind the counter ;-) ;-) LOL
