hi all, back for another piece of advise from you all. have carmed down re the trainer incedent and have realised that no dog is perfect and that freddie is no better or worse than the majority of other dogs.have had possitive replies from lindsey, and are booked for training club post easter. what i am after is advise on lead aggression from people and how do i stop it? he is absolutly fine with dogs he knows really well. we can walk past other dogs 9 out of 10 times with no problems as long as there is space between and no contact, the problem is when dogs come over to say hi, off lead this is rarely a problem but on lead compleate nightmare. any ideas gratfully received.

Do you have unrealistic expectations?

Dogs on lead cannot choose flight or fight as they are attached to someone and there is no escape from "rude" dogs. Space Invaders.

Think about how you would react if people touched you uninvited, got too close to you in an inappropriate situation, I am sure you would not just stand there, smile and interact, you would at the least move into a more comfortable position, at worst you may react in a somewhat less than welcoming manner, especially if you were on your own, in the dark etc.

Your dog is just telling the other dogs to shove off as it is not in a position to freely communicate with body language and eye contact etc being constrained on the lead.

If you feel a dog is breaching your dog's air space, step in between, you are the leader, put yourself between the dog and yours, the dog will take its cue from you, even a GSD ;)

i know and you are right, but it seems that mine is the only dog that does this! it gives people the impression that he is vicious which he is not. for example me and mark took him out for  walk along our local cycle track, freddie was on lead as i wanted to watch him , passed several dogs, first two one came said hi no probs next was even worse than freddie ever is, next we lunged at following three walked past with no real reaction so not to bad. i wanted to let him off when passing a dog but mark would not let me, i am 99% sure that he will be fine as he has never gone for a dog. i think i am most likely abit over aware of his bred and breeding so maybe a little over sensative.
