Not sure if this is a problem or indeed if it is a sign of anything. My daughters xborder terrier Pickles is crate trained and has started licking her wee after she has used the crate. Its weird - she seems to go back to the spot and then just licks it. My Westie never did this and we are just a little puzzled at this behaviour. Any ideas.
I used to have bitches that would pee in a puddle, turn around and drink out of the puddle

After checking for infection the vet said it was just something some dogs do. Something to do with testing the waters (so to speak ;) ) to see if everything was ok. Some just like the taste. Yukk! :)
Hiya,
Is she getting told off, shouted at or anything when she has an accident - sometimes especially in sensitive dogs if they get yelled at or something when they have an accident they will try and get rid of the wee by licking it up as they associate the wee with the telling off so try and get rid of what is causing the yelling. Not saying that is the case just a thought.

No not at all. She is trained to use the crate and uses it efficiently. May be its just one of those things.

Five month old Eric does this sometimes - goes out for a pee, has a sniff round, and then has a quick taste of the fresh puddle he just created
I hope he'll grow out of it.

Does this dog use the crate for her toilet? thats not what "crate training is for" maybe i've read your post wrongly, but thats what it sounds like. My dog does this, especially if any of the bitches are in season.

Nips doesn't actually lick up his own wee but he does forget that this was "one he made earlier" and gets terribly interested until he remembers that this was but one of the umpteen blades of grass/clumps of daffodils/gateposts he'd had to cock his leg over.
thats how i read it too Marguirite
