Does anyone know what eye problems parsons are prone to having?

If you don't get an answer here this evening a call to the Breed Club tomorrow should bring the information you need
PARSON JACK RUSSELL TERRIER CLUB. Sec. Mrs R M Hussey Wilford. Tel No: 01905 821440
Although prone to have may be an exageration as I don't think this breed to particularly prone to anything, to ensure stock is tested for would be a better thing to seek ;)

Thanks Isabel, it's just that I know of someone who has had a litter and her vet has said that one of them has a reflection in it's eyes. I know that neither parents have any health testing done on them (they are pet people) and both this litter and the last litter were both accidents!! not even a season in between them. Just wondered what they eye test for really. And just to top it all off they have kept the above puppy and are getting a bitch puppy from the breeder of the sire and dam so that they can breed yet another litter. It makes me so mad when all people can see is pound signs. Sorry for the whinge.

Well eye testing under the BVA scheme is definately recommend by the KC but do you really think it is going to make any difference to these people if you tell them that? :(

Actually, yes do have a go.  Tell them that as it is a recommended test if puppies develop a problem this makes it very much easier for people to sue them, the fear of wallet damage might rattle them a bit :)

Probably not as the breeder that they got the sire and dam from doesn't seem to be bothered either and she has bought one of the pups from this litter and the last to show.
Oh and there was a bad mouth in both litters, I ask myself!

Hi Jenny
I believe PRT can suffer from Lens Luxation & also Legge-Perthes disease. Go & tell them some horror stories :D

Thanks Anwen, I doubt they will listen but I can only try!

i own and show parson russell terriers,am a member of the breed club..and breed the odd litter ..yes we(as a club) ask that the members have their dogs eye checked for PLL some do some don't...i have my dogs checked every year and have always had clear eye tests.I have never come across Legg-Perthes disease in the breed
