Topic Dog Boards / General / how rude!
- By wolfwoman [gb] Date 30.03.06 15:47 UTC
a friend of mine who has 2 jack russels was lookign througth the free ads the other day when she saw another jack looking for a good home, due to unforseen circumstances.
friend has always had jacks, and the two she has now are 2 bitches one is 2 years old the other is 4 years old.
the jack advertised was a castrated 1 year old dog.

friend rang the advert and spoke to the husband who said his wife was the best person to talk to and so took friends number and said wife would ring back.

wife rings friend back and so friend asks about the dog, wife says he had to be rehomed becasue they are moving abroad.

friend asks if the dog is good with other dogs. wife says he is not too bad, and asks friend if she has other dogs then.
friend says yes, and the wife puts the phone down on her.

how rude is that!

friend was prepared to offer a good , life long home for the dog, she has knowledge of the breed. yet the wife must of been put off becasue she already had 2.

what do you think?
- By chrisjack Date 30.03.06 16:08 UTC
yep maybe she lied about the dog being good with dogs, then she found out this lady had others and the lady couldnt be bothered to explain! strange..

Playing devils advocate here, you don't think that possibly the phone got cut off do you? Or said dog jumped up on it and cut it off.  I know there is the 14713 facility now, but ext etc don't read the number back.

Maybe your friend should call back to clarify, at the very least she can say if she was right that it was extremely rude to put the phone down like that.

Jack Russell owners invariable always ask for people with experience of owning the breed before, so should have been pleased with your friend.

I agree its a possibility that the phone just got cut off, If I were your friend I would just ring back and say sorry we must have got cut off just then...........and see how the woman reacts :-)

But I thought the woman with the dog phoned the friend? Surely she had her number and would have phoned back if she'd got cut off? I'd just write it off and file it under 'people are strange'.

originally when friend rang it was on a generated number with the freads. when she did a 1471 after the phone was put down, it was a withheld number. so she went and got the freead number and it said the mobile was witched off and to call back later.

friend said she herd the phone being slammed down, before it went dead. and she waited for the lady to ring back but there was nothing.

There's nowt so strange as folk. Especially on the phone!
But then why on earth are people still looking to buy dogs through the free ads?
- By wolfwoman [gb] Date 31.03.06 12:44 UTC
friend wasnt lookign to buy a dog. she was browsing the freeads in general, and saw the advert, she wasnt activly looking to get another one. however after seeing the advert and it being quite local she decided to ring them.

Perhaps the breeder realised by the conversation that your friend wasn't serious??  Not an excuse but perhaps a reason?  When you've already spent a couple of hours chatting to a prospective owner, I might be a little short with someone who I felt was wasting my time??!!

wife was only on the phone for 2 mins if that.
friend asked if she could knwo more about the dog. said she had experience in the breed. wife said dog was a year old, and they were sellign becasue they were moving abroad. friend asked what dog was liek with other dogs. wife said he isnt too bad then said " why , do you have another dog then"
friend said yes i have 2 well behaved bitches however i would keep the dog seperated to begin with and gradually intorduce. and with that the phone clicked and the wife was gone.

Mmmm.  Not nice.

I'm only guessing and could be way off the mark, but could the woman have got the wrong end of the stick and thought that your friend wanted the dog to mate with her bitches?

Edit: Oops! I just reread and see the dog was advertised as being castrated! :o I was way off the mark! D'oh!

it said the mobile was witched off and to call back later.....friend said she herd the phone being slammed down, before it went dead

This sounds to me like a case of the battery dying on the mobile phone.  Will all respect you can't hear a mobile phone being slammed down as you would with a landline because there's nothing to slam them down into!!

seems to be a mix up here.

the first time my friend phoned the people who were advertising the dog, she got through to a mobile phone. the freeads dont give out the actual number, they generate a number and the number is only valid for the course of the advert. ussualy 6 days. she got througth to the husband who said he would take friends number and get his wife to call her back as she knew more about the dog than him.
wife rang friend on what must of been the landline but with 141 put infrount of the number so that it would be withheld. also that is how she heard the phone being slkammed down onto the reciver. she tried 1471 and it said the number had been withheld. so she tried the generated number again from the freeads and the mobile phone said it had been switched off.

Whoever said 'file it as strange' I'd agree, not worry about it as the friend didnt really want the dog anyway, and move on ;)
