- By chrisjack Date 28.03.06 14:35 UTC
Hey all- ive been to docs again about my weight as i cant put any on AT ALL- NOT EVER! whatever i do and eat- i resemble stick insect!!! but it actually weakens and depresses me sometimes :(

so now the doc has suggested that i graze eat all day- which i do anyway, but also try these weight gain drinks.

off i went to boots and got some- just had one now and tastes of strawberry- nice! but has anyone tried these and do they actually work- i know normally people use it when body building, thanks xx
- By Brunodog Date 28.03.06 14:37 UTC

If you don't mind me asking how old are you?

I was really skinny when I left school.  At 17 I was 5ft 7 and weight 6 stone.  I ate 3 meals a day, one with a desert and just never put any weight on.  When I got to about 26 it started coming on and now I want to lose some :d

I was even asked by the nurse when I started working if I was anorexic:mad:  That did not impress me I can tell you!

I know it's hard but with how I am now I wish that I was thinner, although I'm only just on the overweight scale, barely tipping it actually, so all those years that I wanted to be fatter now I'm going the other way.
- By chrisjack Date 28.03.06 16:04 UTC
yep well ive been 7 stone since i was 15 now im 21, did go up to 8 stone but lost a stone last year.

people think i dont eat- and think its okay to call me anorexic. i once asked an assistant in topshop for a size between 8 &10, her reply was 'why dont you just eat more?" !!!! felt so ashamed of how i looked- what a cow tho'.

mum said once i have a kid the weight will pile on- but i dont want a child just to make me put on weight.!

i feel im wasting so much of the nice food i eat- as obviously im not absorbing all the nutrients properly.

i eat about 5 small meals a daym and try to eat healthily.

Try not to worry too much about your weight.  It is awful to feel too skinny as it is to feel too fat but if you are healthy then that really is the main thing.  One of my daughters (21) actually forgets to eat because she is so not food orientated.  She is a size 8 but I noticed that recently her arms and bum look a bit plumper.  I haven't said a word to her because weight is such a sensitive subject but I wonder if she has put on weight since she became "lurved up"

Don't worry, many of us crave to be the opposite of what we are but the main thing is to be healthy and you sound like you have a great healthy way of eating
- By caileag [gb] Date 28.03.06 16:24 UTC
hi chris,

i know exactly how you feel.  people are so rude!!!!  they would never comment on how fat someone was so why do they feel its ok to comment on people who are thin???  idiots!!!!

i eat and dont put weight on.  my dad is exactly the same and so is his sister.

some folks would say it was a gift!!

cheers guys! x

yeh me mam said to me last summer- when we were on a beach in portugal- after looking me up and down in me yellow bikini-  i said "what!?" and she grabbed hold of my very very small lurve handles and wobbled em- she said "gosh youve put on weight!" it was the first time she'd seen me with a little excess on my thighs and belly, felt really sexy for once!

its quite good cos ive been with my boyfriend for 5 years and he says he thinks i look good whatever, bless him x
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 28.03.06 17:29 UTC
After only weighing 6 1/2 stone for years I asked my doctor how to put weight on. He looked at me and said "Just wait until you turn 40, then you'll be coming back asking me which diet suits you best!" He was right :D I am now 46 and weigh nearly 10 stone. Looking for a diet that will allow me to eat junk food, chocolate, crisps, etc...... ;)

I had a very tall boyfriend once who had trouble keeping his weight up. The shakes really worked for him as he needed about 6000 calories a day to stay at thin. If you mix them with milk you have to make sure you drink lots of water. He didn't and ended up with kidney stones. He also did weight work as having some muscle on his stick insect body made him feel better. Good luck to you. You probably don't get much sympathy for being underweight and hear far too many "I'm jealous comments"
- By vikkie [gb] Date 28.03.06 21:25 UTC
Hi have just read your post and reply's. My father lost weight after an accident and his weight went down to 7 stone ( not healthy he was nearly 6ft tall ). Weight gain drinks helped a little but we found that hidden foods worked better. Ie; Double cream in custard real butter instead of sump oil, cheese in mashed potatoe. You may find that like me you are lucky. I can eat anything (mainley choc, sweets and cakes) and dont put weight on im a healthy size 12-14 with low blood sugar and body fat and the wrong side of 40. The main problem is peoples attitude. If your thin you dont eat if your chubby your lazy, just except your lot and enjoy life its not a trial run, you don't get a second chance.
Best wishes

Having spent most of my life trying to lose weight, am prob not the best to give advice.........but what about eating things like Avocados, (high in healthy fat) I lost weight by cutting out bread and potatos, so maybe reverse that and increase them in your diet. Also nuts are high in calorific value but healthy.
Whatever the scales say, as long as you are healthy, thats all that manners........don't let the jealous fatties get to you ;)

PS will donate you a stone if ya PM me
- By chrisjack Date 28.03.06 21:44 UTC
well i eat lots of avocados, nuts and seeds, cheese, bread/pasta/potatoes, meat, everything i can think of eating- i also add ingredients all the time- like cream and butter to mash etc. am careful not to consume too much butter- as its a solid fat that will deposit in my veins&arteries- dont wnat that! so i use more olive oil.

yeah ive had that offer to swap fat with my mum, my mates, everyone!

had 2 of those shakes and actually feel full- have had a huge roast to tho'! plus chocolate mousse, cereal bar, crisps&hummous afterwards- im disgusting as i ate them in that order!!!! yummy tho"! ;)

My friend is 29yrs old has had 2 children and she doesn't even weigh 100 pounds soaking wet holding a brick, doesn't even look like she ever had children, she too is skinny but that is just her. She is always munching I never see her with out a jube jube lol but she too cannot gain weight and wishes that she could.....

I would just accept yourself the way you are and love yourself for who you are.... Everyone has things they wish they could change about them selves. Don't worry what other people say you no different, I know easier said then done....

Also eating before bed helps put on weight I have heard but not sure where the truth in that lies cause my friend does that and so does my hubby. My hubby is thin to we like to say lean and he eats icecream/cookies/chocolate you name it all before bed lol

Just depends on your motabilism (sp) ect

Ask your Gp to refere you to a dietition. You need to eat healithy, and with a good mix of foods from all groups. very often its a 'jiggle' with eating habits that can help. However, this may be of use to you. my friend ha a son that suffers with the hyperactive disorder, which does make children under height and under weight. her GP suggested she try Build up drinks, for the extra cals (the lad only eat when he felt hungry, and then not a lot). She compared Build up to slim fast to find the ingrediants and cals to be similar, but the flavours sounded more enjoyable. he had two a day, and she was convinced it did put some height and weight on him, over a period of time.

I found Atkins wonderful for putting on weight---but could have sworn I should have been losing at a very fast rate of knots ;)

Hi Chrisjack I'm also spanishwaterdgogs, that's my name at work :d  How tall are you?

I know your not happy about your weight now, but you weigh more than I did at your age and as I say I was 5ft 7.  Now at almost 35 I weight over ten and a half stone and want to lose some weight, not a lot, but some.

If your boyfriends been with you all this time, there must be something that he likes :d

I always wanted to put weight on and was called the usual Olive Oil etc. and picked on at school, but most people are only jealous of you I realise now.

i thought it was the same person!!
yeh im 5ft 6in- and get a lot of stick, i got called anorexic again at the weekend, and the old vet at work used to say i wasnt upto the job and that i need to eat more! i hate buying healthy food in supermarket as i dont want people looking at my trolley thinking im a freak!

i know i shouldnt care, but its hard when people you look up to, believe im anorexic. i cant wear sleeveless tops- my legs are fine- i can wear skirts, its mainly my shoulders and chest bones that are slightly visible- but i hate it!! feel so unsexy.

i would never dare say to an overweight person- gosh how much do eat! you definitely need to eat less!- because i have no right, so why do i get it- obviously the opposite. people think i strive to be my size, but i dont. my size is seen as the ideal as im skinny, but its not, and i think thats why people think they can offend me- cos 'im perfect'....bugs the hell out of me..

yeh my boyfriend is great- i suppose without me though, he wouldnt have tea made for him everyday or wouldnt have all our animals!! xxxx

oh and im being referred to my dietician- she may take a while to get to see me tho'

I was exactly the same as you and I still have skinny arms, have to wear children's bracelets as adult ones don't fit me!  Even now because I am 5ft 7 people think I'm a lot thinner than I am.  People are always saying look at you, you're about a size 8 and I have been that size ever, even at 6 stone and 17 years of age I was in a size 10.  They are always shocked when I say how heavy I am now and it's usually work colleagues and because I work next to a ward if they are adamant about how thin I am I walk them to the scales and show my exact weight!!

It is annoying, it is hard work, but you sound healthy to me and I think that you may also be told that by the nutritionist.  There are of course some things that can body you up but I'd be extremely cautious of taking any of these so called remedies.

I hope that things do work out for you.  Just remember it's the other people with a severe problem and not you

Take care.
Diane

Are you trying to get hate mail Mags, posting something like this!! :D :D

Has it occurred to you that all the people making nasty remarks are probably dead jealous - you probably look like all those willowy model girls they would love to be :).  Maybe you just burn up calories fast?  Don't worry, slower metabolism and weight gain comes to most of us in the end!  :D

Hi Chrisjack

I am on weight gain milkshakes (called Scandishakes) prescribed by the hospital and have put on 10kg in a year :D  They come in 4 flavours (choc, vanilla, banana and strawberry) and a neutral one that I can add to meals eg, stew, mince, rice pudding, mashed potatoes etc.  I think they are approx. 500 calories per sachet when made up with milk and 300 calories when added to a dish.

HTH

Jax :)

I was just wondering if some weight training etc at a gym may help build up your muscle tone? This could give you a better outline, and maybe the shift in metablism may help your body use the food you eat more effectivley. Im not saying get like a body builder lol...there are some really good people that work at gyms nowadays that can help with diet and weight problems, very sympathetically. Just a thought.
