Topic Dog Boards / Showing / 'Facey' judges (locked)

Do these judges exist??? I was at a champ show at the weekend and an observer said , " That judge picks faces / dogs he knows. I know exactly which dogs will win classes and the cc's. "

The judge pretty much picked the dogs this lady said he would. I am appalled if this really goes on. What about the people he does not know??? We dont stand a chance, it sickens me to think that if this really happens, lots of people are wasting their money going under certain judges.

:D I think a lot of knowledgable people could have a good chance of picking the winner from the ringside but it's more often because they are the best dog than anything else.   Again a lot of the "faces" that people moan about getting the places are "faces" because they have consistantly campaigned good dogs.  I should think, as in any walk of life, there might be the odd wrong but I think most people take a pride in their judging.

Danny sometimes it's a case of facey judging but more often than not judges will pick out a certain type that they like - hence people claim to "know" what dogs will be put up ;)

It's also the same when someone puts up a male they've recently used or just booked for their bitch.  It's highly likely that these people have booked or used that dog because they like it so OF COURSE they're going to put it up.  Same applies to an animal that's by one of their dogs.  If it's the same type of dog that the judge breeds then of course they're going to prefer it.

I think ringside comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt ;)

Yep. I was recently speaking to a judge who gave BOB to a dog from abroad, one which had never been shown in the UK before -nor had the owner showed here. The judge didn't know the owner or breeder, had never seen the dog before, had never heard of it, but she loved it. Later on she found it was out of a bitch she'd bred. :)

Yes, good dogs do eventually win through on their own merits BUT we have all seen the judge that judges the faces even though they are showing dogs that you & I would stand no chance with if we handled!  It does go on....thankfully there are some good judges out there who outweigh the ones who 'go with the flow'!

you say you were at a champ show, i assume this was uk toy? if so you could not find a more honest straight judge, i would suggest you are a bit more careful who you stand next to!!
