I was thinking that after we have sorted out our dogs hip problem etc that I would like to take her for a holiday somewhere in the UK preferably no more than 2-3 hours away from London but it is really hard to find dog friendly places.
I would love to take her to the sea to swim and walk on the beach or somewhere with lovely rural walks and clear streams for her to swim in. 
Can anybody recommend anywhere nice at all.  I know sometimes accommodation can be dodgy are there any nice hotels/inns that take dogs where the rooms are clean and not covered in hairs?

I have also found cornwall to be the most dog friendly of places, beautiful part of the country as well. We went to Woolacomb and most pubs allowed doggies and they have dog friendly beaches.

I bought the 'Pets welcome book'..it lists loads of places but I've not tried it out. There are pet friendly places listed on the internet too. Some places clain to be pet friendly but only take one small dog..or have outside kennel it must stay in so you have to check carefully.

I agree with Tenaj - double check with them where the dogs are expected to sleep.  One place I contacted said they had kennels outside in a pen.  With other dogs - which was useless for my dog.

Other places let them sleep in the bedrooms if you take their own bed.  Others, provide dog beds.  And others, say don't let them sleep on the duvet as they leave the room with a wink :)  All the best places I've been are in Scotland I'm afraid so not much use for you.

Well, it's not close, but if you wanted somewhere nice that accepted dogs the Turnberry resort near Glasgow does. I think it's a bit overpriced but it is a deluxe resort with all the pampering, massages, outdoor activities etc. It's right near the beach for walkies and they were happy to have my puppy at 16 weeks old which is iffy for house training (he never messed once though). My sister has found that the pricier resorts tend to accept dogs more often than you would think - you just have to ask. They supply a separate deluxe mattress for your dog, food bowls (kind of small).

If your dog has a crate and is trained to sleep in it you will find places more likely to take you with them, as they know the dog won't cause damage when your not in the room.
