Chow Chows.I forgot to mention I only want to mate if my bitch is suitable. She is only 10 months old and I have a lot of research to do before I will mate them.

I'm sure that once your bitch has passed all the medical tests needed and you have found a suitable, tested and experienced stud dog you will find that the stud dog owner will give you the help you need.

Hi Joan
It sounds as though Rose already has the dog as well as bitch.
Hi Rose,
Once you have done all your research and any medical tests it might be that your two are not the most compatible/beneficial mix - if you have not already done so then go to shows and meet the chow people and chat to them, learn about your chosen breed and which lines have entropian (?) and the best way to avoid this and any other problems. While you are learning about the problems also find out about the good points on chows and see if your two are compatible and that their puppies should be better than the adults. You have at a minimum 14 months, probably longer, to start learning so you have a little time.
I say a little time because even if we have been in our chosen breed 10, 20 or 40 years we are all still learning

Quite right Christine. It was late and I missed the fact that Rose said dogS and not dog.

Hi Christine and Joan
thanks for your help.
I will do lots of checks before I do decide to mate them.Another avenue I was thinking about was having my males semen frozen. He is 6 and a half years old.I would only want to use it myself to the right bitch.Chows are very hard to mate. Not many produce pups.
I would just like to see one litter of pups from him.I know I have lots of homework to do.I do not intend just mating for mating sake.If I can not better the breed I will not go there.
I have found this site very informative looking at past letters and replies
Entriopia is in the breed I do know.
What can you say when people still breed from dogs with it.
In some breeds it is a very close circle.
Boy try asking some people which lines have entriopia in them .It is just a no no.
Thanks Rose

I do know someone in Stafford who can mate dogs. Once you've had all the health checks etc. please e-mail me and I will give you his tel. no. He is absolutely wonderful and I believe that people with champion dogs and who have had dogs for years use him.
