Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / beans and pulses?

can dogs eat beans and pulses without any ill effects?  I'm having a (very half-hearted) delve into the world of Gillian McKeith cookery and want to know if the dog can eat any of my kitchen experiments.  any problems apart from the obvious wind that may be generated?

It is doubtful that in the wild a dog would eat any pulses as they are generally not attractive until cooked.  Ask yourself why you want to feed them and what if anything they can add to your dogs diet that cannot be provided by more appropriate sources........

If you don't want to eat your kitchen experiments, what makes you think the dog wants them inflicting on him? :D

As long as they are fully cooked, technically grains and pulses should be okay. But I'd stick to very small amounts as you may end up with the dog pebble-dashing the walls.

Hi Phoebe, my dog loves my cooking, it's me that needs convincing that beans and pulses are tasty when I'd much prefer chicken or steak!  She's unlikely to get many because I'll be back on the unhealthy food in no time. lol.

Ahh - who wants to look like Gillian McKeith anyway - she's like a menopausal barbie doll! I was a vegetarian for 5 years and the mere mention of Quinoa (aka wallpaper paste) makes me feel billious, though Red Dragon pie is pretty good and still on the menu.

I know my dogs would rather have steak than beans and I remember having a veggie barbecue once and my then chow ate a couple of veggie sausages and nut cutlets, puked and was ill for days afterwards... loooovely.
