Hi there,
does anyone know if you can use a credit card to pay an individual? I am desperate for a new car but I don't want to get ripped off so I would like to buy privately but I would have to sell my old car to fund it and I can't do without it. So basically I would have to put it on my credit card.

If anyone has an idea I would be really grateful

No, you can't pay an individual with a CC.

Can you ask them if they accept Paypal?

That's one way around being able to pay them by credit card. They can then transfer the money straight into their bank account.

You may have to pay a small fee though.

Ahh good plan, and duh:rolleyes: why didn't I think of that, I spend my life on ebay!

Thankyou I shall ask them about Payal.

I hate to say this (because it annoys me ( :D ) that we get sent them without asking for them) but our c/card company issues us with cheques that we could use to pay bills/people with :) (I'm afraid that they always find their way into the shredder)

yeah, i was going to say, if you have cheques for your credit card you can use that.

I've always chucked them in the bin too so I have never really checked whether money draw on such a cheque attracts interest straight away rather than the 6 weeks or so grace you get with purchases using the card.  In which case it could be a very much more expensive way of borrowing rather than a bank loan, for instance, particularly a secured one.  I would expect it to attract the 1 or 2% that a cash withdrawal does but that's not so bad.

Isabel - don't just bin them :( Please shred or at least tear them up :)

Interest is charged on Cheques on credit card accounts as soon as they are used - just like using your credit card in a cash machine (so I understand anyway, never indulged myself, such invites get burnt on the fire!)

You don't have the protection with cheques or cash drawn from a credit card like you do if you use the card for payment, as in the insurance the cards provide on purchases.
