Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Harness - which one?
- By lab lover [gb] Date 21.03.06 18:25 UTC Edited 21.03.06 18:38 UTC
I know there has been lots of posts on this subject but I was wondering which is the best harness for a lab.  She doesnt pull all the time but I feel it would be kinder to have a harness than the normal collar and lead which Im using at the moment.  There are so many to choose from and the expensive ones are not necessarily the best

Oops posted in wrong board soz!  Blame the kids for that!

I don't have a harness but the best thing i ever bought was a halti, it just goes over there nose and clips on like a normal collar and if they pull it pulls there head to one side and they lose focus, it worked almost straight away as my dog was a nightmare for pulling and nothing worked. His pulling was putting me off walking him for a while as he was so strong, so i used to wait till my husband was in, but now we are back to normal and it's great.

Hi there

We have one of those - she hates it.  In saying that I dont think I tried her with it long enough.  Getting a harness tomorrow so will see how it goes with that.

thanks

Hi lablover,
sorry only just noticed this.
I use a harness (well have a couple for different uses!!)
But what I would say is... Pay attention to the way they fit around your dog.
I say this because Ive had problems with some with my Husky, depends (of course) what sort of activity your lab does when he's out and about... But mine looooves to go into the thicket in our wood, and spends his time jumping branches and undergrowth.....with the type of harness's that their legs go through...I was finding that he'd constantly get his leg caught and more commonly pull it through. Ive got a 'Rogs for dogs' one now that he wears when he's just off ratching about in the wood and its a great design, without their legs having to go through...
not sure if this makes sense..Im rushing as about to go out
PM if you like.
Im also using just a tracking harness for road/track walking running.
and...I have a husky who walks on a loose lead in a harness ;)
It can be done :)
