Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Why do so many people disagree with Pedigree Puppy complete

When our puppy came she was being fed James Wellbeloved, she was not impressed, changed to Pedigree puppy complete, but at the same time required treatment for puppy colitis..not sure if this was aggravated by Pedigree, so changed back to JW, after having been on prescription food. Not impressed, even by adding warm water....again tried a mixture of JW and PC..no problems, eating dinner, clean bowl.
Is there anyone who recommends PC. All comments appreciated.

Dog food  discussions usually end up in a huge debate on here, as everyone feels they feed their dog the best food (which am sure they do) all I would say is if it suits your dog, and she is doing well on it, carry on. :)

Niamh - if neither Pedigree nor JWB suit your puppy, then why not try another food which does?  Maybe try Burns or try Arden Grange?

www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk  or www.ardengrange.com

I think Pedigree is one of the worst foods out there, but the reasons have been gone into a million times on here before, so if you do a search for Pedigree or just read around the food board (earlier posts), you will find all.

Pedigree foods often tend to be too rich and full of additives for little tums, causing them to become upset etc.
I have a dog with a wheat /gluten allergy, showed itself up when I got him as a pup because he kept scratching (and having many years ago now done a course in dog and cat nutrition) recognised immeadiatly what the problem may be.  Wheat/Gluten allergy can also show itself up as tummy upsets etc too.
I put him on PAH own make puppy food and he thrived and loved it, it is a good quality food at a reasonable price.
6 months later (yes I know mad) I acquired another pup and just put her straight on it and she has grown really well on it.
It may be worth a try, you can get small sample bags to see if your dog will like it first.

Molly was fed on Pedigree PC for the 1st few months & it gave her very very runny poos & she had gastroentriatus (sp??) twice when she was on it so the vet recommended we change her food then.

Its not called 'pedigree bum' for nothing! ;)  Like another poster has said it can be too rich for some dogs especially breeds that have 'sensitive digestive systems'.  However, there are some people on here who say that if puppies are given a range of food from day 1 it could prevent these sensitivities   Also, there are a lot of breeders who swear by raising there pups on it, giving it to their whelping bitches to get them back to peak health and they all do grand!  I don't dislike Pedigree at all I just take the mick a bit cos its given our 3 Shelties (2 previous and 1 current) the squits *not nice to clean up!*
