Hi Guest there are a few in the UK, but only a few. It may be that your best plan to attend Discover Dogs which takes place in London in the winter of Crufts Dog show in March and speak to the people manning the stand. I think the only way you will get one, apart from importing, is to make yourself know to those who have the breed. You could try asking the KC for a contact address they may be able to help. All the best. Jackie H

Contact G.D.A.S. (The Great Dane Adoption Society) I think you'll find that they have a litter in rescue! www.danes.org.uk or e-mail danemad@tiscali.co.uk
Just to clarify - although they are a charity for G.Danes they will if necessary sometimes help other large/giant breeds.

Sorry for delay in replying.....you know how it is! The bitch was handed in to The Dogs Home, Battersea where she whelped, I believe 7 or 8 puppies. It is thought that the owners had a 'few' dogs in the house and I assume, consequently an accidental mating! The owner couldn't cope with the idea of so many Dogue De Bordeax and 'gifted her in' Don't you love the term Gifted In - sounds like a big favour!! Any how 2 pups didn't make it and then mum turned on the rest so GDAS took the remaining pups and the bitch stayed at Battersea for re-homing from there. At GDAS they lost a further pup despite having it on a drip for 3 days and the rest are now being homed. It is a sad, sad story - you can only imagine how stressed the bitch must have been. I know accidents do happen BUT....:( Anyway thanks to GDAS the surviving pups have been very well loved and cared for and will now go to approved homes:)
Good job there are such dedicated people in rescue societys everywhere that devote so much time and effort in picking up the pieces.

Thanks Jackie, doesn't bear thinking about, thank goodness for the careing few. One wonders what an inexperianced home was doing with several of such a breed. Oh dear, Ja:(kie

Dumped is the word that tells the truth, Grr.... I reallythink that when people decide to offload in this way the Recue taking them in should insist that their remaining dogs are all neutered, and I am not a neuter everything proponent!

Unfortunately this is what has happened from the off start with this breed, I believe around my area Manchester was a bad place for this. I wonder if that is why it took so long for them to be registered. Such a shame because they seem such a lovely breed.
Hope you have luck in your search. There's someone from I think the Yorkshire way who has recently imported a couple of new lines, but I don't know much about them.

There were some in our local paper and they were £1500

You can get 2.5 clumber spaniels for that :D

There was a story in the paper recently about a dog puppy that had been stolen and he was valued at £2000. The police launched an undercover operation to recover him and three youths were charged with handling stolen goods.
Is it the Dogue that's in the washing powder tv advert??

You can get 3 SWD's for that!!

Or 4 and a little bit of my Beardie. Is a SWD a Spanish Water Dog I really like those. Very interested in those I saw at Crufts Discover Dogs.

Yes it is a Spanish Water Dog. Beardie people are taking over the breed at the moment!!!! I suppose they do look quite similar so I can understand why so many want them, in a way. I was at Discover Dogs with my old girl Dilita and her daughter Lydia on the Saturday and Sunday.

Try the link that leigh has put up for the club. This is the only club I know of at the moment in dogues. It would be worth contacting them as they do produce a mag with breeders in. I would also suggest you join it, sorry I cant find my membership at the moment or I would give you more details.
You could try attending one of the champ shows as dogues are now shown under the import class and this would allow you to see them in the flesh!
Beware of bad hindquarters which is prominent in the breed. There are also a lot of back street breeders breeding dogues as they fetch a high price on the market.
