My cavalier has become rather smelly. After a bath she's fine for about two days and then it's there again. She is fed NaturDiet with a mix and in evey way she seems pretty lively and healthy but it is becoming very embarrassing when people notice it. Does anyone out there have of a cure for this?

She isn't weeing on her leg feathers by any chance is she? My Harvey's started doing this and can smell a day after his bath:rolleyes: I wash is front legs daily to stop him smelling.

Thanks for that - it's not a wee smell - more like doggy BO!

Thanks Lea - could be - she has to visit the vet next week for her booster so I'm sure he'll check for that. I didnt know the smell could be caused by anal glands - but I suppose that makes sense. She had a problem with anal glands when she was a pup but she's 14 months old now as hasn't had a problem for a while.

check her ears for mites, they can make a dog smell esp cavaliers as they have no ventaltion.

I think you're probably right - can't see anything but she is scratching her ears a lot. I'm taking her to the vets on Friday so he should sort it out.

Thanks for your help.

In 14 years owning my breed I have never had ear trouble, and the dogs coats do not smell doggy at all (as for breath and farts that's another matter depending on what has been scavenged).

Just before Crufts my youngest was scratching one ear.

I used an ear cleaner for a few days and did get some waxy residue, but wasn't happy as that ear smelt doggy and the other didn't .

The Vet found excess wax and redness and a weeks worth of antibiotic drops have her ear not smelling any more.

Ears would be my first thought with a dog with pedulous and hairy ears.
