Dog owners warned to be vigilant 
Pet owners are being warned to be more vigilant after an increase in the number of dog thefts.
Doglost, which helps search for lost and stolen pets, has warned councils that there is a particular problem around Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

Experts advise not to leave dogs tied outside shops and to microchip them to help identify pets if they are found.

Doglost says at present Staffordshire bull terriers and bull terriers seem to be favoured by dog thieves.
