I rang Orange yesterday to report numerous faults with my phone and as a business customer they were happy to arrange for a next day replacement..so far so good!!The girl advised me to just take my SIM card from my faulty phone and pop it in the new phone and all my contacts will be there...rang orange again to double check this (as you do!) as i explained my contacts are VERY important, the other girl gave me the same advice.

So the courier delivered the new phone, I gave them my old phone minus my sim card, poped it in the new phone and computer sas nooooo!! no contacts, nuffin!!!zilch, nada!!

rand orange back, they said oh, you should have first transfered your all your contacts from the phone to the sim card....arghhhhhhhhh

I am so angry with my self.......7 years worth of business and personal contacts all gone, caching (sp)!!!!
The thing is, I've got a palm v and when you store a new contact it doesn't give you the option to store to sim, or phone ,so i assumed they were stored on the sim card:confused:

Lesson learned!!!

Ouch, I would have wrote them down just incase. Cant you ask them for the phone back and explain that you have lots of important numbers?

I had more than 300 contacts and yes I agree I should have written them town...

I was on the phone to orange for an hour explaining and even rang the courier company but they said once the phone's been collected they get taken to a warehouse and dismanttled (sp) and there is no way of getting the phone back....they said they even had the police requesting phones as evidence for cases they've been working on but they could not get them back.....

To add insult to injury the courier girl who delivered my new phone and collected my old one , she recognised me as we went on the same business course last year and had a chat how things were with her etc. I just have no idea what her name was but she did say she lived locally :mad:...can u imagine, my old phone with all my contacts is currently in her van and she probably lives less than 5 miles from me...ARGHHH:mad:

If you go to an Orange shop, you can get a card (at a small cost of course  ) and when you are passing, you just pop in and ask them to update it. It takes all your contacts etc and stores them so it's easy to reload if your phone fails or you change it :)

I'm going to start writing down my contacts. I had my mobile stolen when I was waiting for a tube in Paris last month

Of course I get texts and no one is signing them because they should be coming up with the stored names automatically so I have to guess who it is or just text them back to find out.

Luckily although there are numbers that I am unlikely to be able to find out before they contract me, at least there are no business ones that I can't get hold of via other people.  Taught me a lesson too.

>I'm going to start writing down my contacts<

You can buy quite a few different little devices now to copy your sim card on to and store the numbers, OH bought me one (as I have suffered this numerous times!) The one I have is just key ring size and I slot my sim card into it, very easy and basic! quite cheap too.
That said I have given in too 'turning into my mother' and have bought an address book ...still meaning to fill it in (a year later!)

Well, I learnt a lesson this year too! I had a Palm Pilot that Hubby bought me a couple of years ago...all my contacts in it...and I couldn't turn it on...although I could synchronize with my 'puter, I hadn't done it...and now..zip ker plunk sweet fanny adams!! Ohh for a pen and a sensible address book LOL

Thx for the advice HuskyGal :-)

I have spoke to Orange and will pop in one of their shops at the weekend, that little back up device is definetely worth investing in :-)

There's only one thing worse then losing all of your contacts and its when your teenage son loses all his . Believe me, when the phone goes wrong, their whole social life grinds to a halt and its long faces for days.
