Most rescue homes will regularly have Jack Russell cross puppies many of which will look like they might have a bit of poodle in them, well just as much as the very expensive crosses sold with that name.  By choosing one from a rescue home you will be giving a little dog a second chance of a good home, be discouraging any unscrupulously breeder from producing another litter to fill more rescue places, directly or indirectly, and save yourself a fortune to boot :)

you know what really pi**es me off about all these poodle crosses is after years and years that purebred breeders spend perfecting their chosen breed someone comes up with these mixes calls them designer sells them for a bucket load and in reality they are a mutt and probably a mutt without proper health testing.

This just drives me nuts

Hi

what also bothers me is jack russells and poodles make super pets but when you get a bad one you know about it. So as I jack russell breeder I am very carefull about temperement. Im pretty sure the breeders of these crosses arnt so botheres.

Imagine crossing a bad tempered poodle and russell.:mad:

In my opinion there should be no such abomination as a "jackapoo" since this ridiculous crossing is the ruination of two perfectly sound breeds in their own right.

People can call them what they like but the bottom line is if they aren't pedigree, they are mongrel

I thought people usually called them jackadoodles? theres a woman on another forum I go on has got one and thats what she calls it.
- By Anwen [gb] Date 20.03.06 10:25 UTC
Since they are not a breed, you can call them anything you like. :)

 They were Heinz 57 when I was a child, and friends older than me would call them Bitsa's (bits of this and Bits of that)

I've heard of someone up North (I think) who has bred "jackadoodles" for nearly 30 years (I believe). His are a mixture of toy poodle and jack russell. Not sure whether they are still first crosses or several generations down the road.
