Topic Dog Boards / Showing / dogs not for competition
- By joelol [gb] Date 20.03.06 13:11 UTC
hi
can anyone tell me what "dogs not for competition" means on show schedules?

thanks

Basically it means you pay (usually a small amount) so you can take your dog to the show, but not have it entered in classes

thanks that was quick!

is it normally were people are taking a dog to gain experience?

Normally people who have a show dog and a pet dog and because they are out for the day they enter their pet NFC so it can be with them at the show.

Since the rule changed & puppies of 4+ mths can be entered NFC, some people do that, often it's if you haven't got anyone at home to look after the dog who would otherwise be home alone!

I had a feeling you could take 4+ month puppies as NFC (as I know you certainly can in agility shows), but on reading show schedules it still says puppies must be 6 months

I thought this had changed too - but I did enter my 4 month as NFC at Manchester but was told by fossedata that he was too young!  And that they still only except 6 months plus - were they wrong?

I only use if noone to look after at home!  I did find that if another breed they bench with their own breed so we usually find someone to look after the non entered doggies!

It depends on the society, I think & don't think many big Ch. shows do 4 months, more usually breed clubs. A big champ. show could be a bit overpowering plus a very long day for many 16 wk old puppies.

I think it varies, some societies accept 4 month dogs, some don't. It's worth asking the secretary - last year I took my 5 month bitch to a show for experience after asking the secretary, even though it said 6 months on the schedule. Great way of getting them used to the noise and atmosphere before they actually have to perform! :-)

It's not at all shows it's obedience, agility, single breed & sub group shows

Breed Shows to allow NFC at 4 months - Friday, February 27, 2004
NOT FOR COMPETITION ENTRIES

The Kennel Club has been receiving numerous requests from individuals and clubs on the issue of allowing puppies between the ages of four and six months to enter shows  'Not for Competition'.

The General Committee has also been considering a proposal from the KCLC Breeds Council that puppies aged four calendar months and over are eligible to enter 'Not for competition' at breed club and sub-group club shows.

In considering this proposal the General Committee were mindful that a similar situation has been in operation at Obedience and Agility Shows for a few years and therefore agreed to extend this to single breed and sub-group shows.

Therefore, with immediate effect four month old puppies may be entered at single breed and sub-group shows with the provisos that the club/society offer this facility.

Kennel Club Regulations will not be altered to take account of this decision until the success or otherwise of this change is reviewed in two years time.
