My 8 month girl who doesn't think much of dogs or people was attacked by a Pitbull type of dog today!  Luckily the dog was more for playing although he did have a go at her twice on her back.  We finally managed to get our dogs after I'd turned the sky a deep blue, I never knew that I could swear that much at a person to get control of their dog.  She was OK, scared of course but no injuries that I could find.

It was such a shame as I'd been working hard to get her out of the fear period and I'm just worried that this is going to set me back further, especially as the obedience classes are off for 2 weeks from this week, so I won't even be socialising her there.

Aggggghhhhh some people.  The bloke was upset and did apologise and I was dying to ask him what breed of dog it was supposed to be but I was that annoyed I had to walk away before I hit him!!

That's a shame :(  I really hope she's ok after that.  At least she wasn't under 20 wks old because that would have been a socialisation disaster.

I have to make a confession here which is that I don't walk mine at weekends at all - because it's when the hoards of people who only walk their dogs at weekend descend on all dog walking areas and most dogs with dodgy temperaments are out!!!  So mine get walked and trained Mon-Fri and then lots of training around the house (and 2 days off for me!) at weekends!

I thought it was just me that avoided the parks at weekends and school holidays ans  ahve very easy going bitches that are big enough to look after themselves if need be.

I stick to road walking at these times.

I always avoid the usual dog walking places on Sundays, especially if it is sunny. That's when all the people who never walk their dogs at other times (so they are untrained and unsocialised) come out, they look at the weather and realise it's a Sunday and remember hey! I've got a dog somewhere, lat's take it for a walk.

Best day of year to get the world to yourself for a nice walk: Christmas Day! Never fails!

The field I went on was far away from the maddening crowd, just unfortunate that a Pitbull type was there!!!  Not much help for my dog though!

I hope she'll be allright. Awful when something like that happens.

This really drives me crazy...pitbull types walking around, off lead, not muzzled :(  Really now there should just be the odd aged pitbull type doddering around. A quick look through my local free ads paper and probably 60% of the dog ads are for some sort of american staffy cross! GRrrr. I hope your girl is ok Diane and won't think every dog will be like this one.

I know it annoys me too!!  I must admit that it was a very handsome lucking dog, but myself and Carmen would of had no chance if he'd of had a real go, he was absolutely massive both height wise and in stature.  I did try and grab him at one point and then thought how stupid could I be, if he'd of gone for me I would of been dead!!

I hope Carmen won't be too bothered by it, I'll have to take her for her walk next time with her dad or great grandma who love anything and everything!

Aah, poor Carmen. Hope she's none the worse for her scary encounter.

This story has made the local news today :( Sickening, isn't it? Unfortunately pit bulls and their crosses (mostly masquerading as 'Irish' Staffs) are all too common here :(
