My 7 month old did that humping motion today over my neighbours dog.  I wasn't particuliarly embarrassed, more surprised really.. i thought he was a bit young to have any 'feelings'.  He is entire, and will remain that way.. just wondering if 7 months isnt a bit early.

On a side note, has there been any research done on sexual repression in dogs?  I know it sounds like a joke, but wondering if a dog is ready, and nothing happens, does he suffer from depression or anything like that?

At 7 months he's perfectly capable of siring a litter, so unless you plan to use him at stud he'll need to be discouraged from humping other dogs. As for sexual depression - never being allowed to mate certainly hasn't depressed my entire dogs! If only! They're very enthusiastic and happy, and at 6½ years I think I'd have noticed! ;) This is one of the few cases where 'what they've never had, they never miss' holds true! :)

Thank you JG... amazing that my little boy is growing up!  Against if my 14 year old son who can't make his bed, but hangs Jordan pictures on his wall could be interested, anything is possible.  LOL.

He will not be siring anything anytime soon, thats for sure.

(Maybe it's just my OH who gets depressed... ;) )

He'd be more depressed if he was allowed to mate once and then never again -that goes for both the dog and OH. :D :D

LOL..........was thinking the same thing myself goldmali ;)

My mother has always had entire dogs who've lived to long and happy lives without apparently suffering terrible feelings of sexual repression. But she's always said that "since they can't tell Stork from butter they're none the wiser".

PS. I think it's only MEN who claim that their nads will explode if they don't er, get regular relief!

ITs not always a sexual thing though, its quite a common occurence for 11-14 week old puppies to do this when they get excited at our puppy parties. ITs usually when they are playing.

my last litter were doing it from 6 weeks! you could see it was  a dominance thing
