Our 17 week old puppy has an in-built alarm clock. She wakes up at EXACTLY 5.45am every morning (yuck!). Nothing happens at that time to wake her up (we have checked heating etc) - something inside her obviously just clicks at that time. (She also seems to know exactly when it's time to be fed!). I wondered whether when the clocks go forward an hour later this month, do you think we might get an extra hour's sleep in the morning, or do you think she will adapt and still get us up at this hideous hour?

Does she get fed that early in the morning? I would probably just train her to wait - so when she wakes at 5:45 not go down till 6 one day, then 6:15 the next etc etc. Don't know if it would work but then I'd probably sleep through anyway :D Willis has to nearly bash the door down with his paw to wake me up if he needs to go out :D

I remember when the clocks went back, this totally threw my dogs' body clock. It took over a week for them to realise their food was an hour later  now it won't be long before they are confused again getting fed earlier :P not that they will mind!
'Willis has to nearly bash the door down with his paw to wake me up if he needs to go out' I can sleep through the loudest, longest of alarm clocks, but if a baby cries or the dogs' whine/bark I am awake within seconds! :P (I know this cos OH is a very light sleeper and he's told me how quickly I wake to those noises yet is baffled how the radio alarm coming on full volume doesn't even make me flinch! :P)

Oh, I wake up when Archie stirs  but poor Willis is lower down the priority list :D

:P well I have no babies now, so the dogs are 'it' :P When my daughter first brought
her daughter home, I'd be half way along the landing when I would realise it wasn't my 'job' and would turn round and go back (after making sure daughter had got up) :D

No, we don't feed her until 7am. If we ignore her the noise just builds to a crescendo....not really condusive to a lie in! But maybe we just need to invest in a better pair of ear-plugs!
I was wondering the other day how you were getting on Feebee ....
Well Roxy has a pretty accurate body clock too - she'll do a solitary bark at 6.45am. I did simply ignore her last Sunday and lo and behold we got to sleep in until 8.10. and no accidents.(She had only been out for a pee at about 5.45 though!) What luxury!!
However Roxy had her first night without being taken out to go the loo last night, so whilst I won't go down striaght after she barks I'll be inclined to 'believe' the early morning bark is to go the loo....

Hello Fluff - nice to hear from you. 8.10am - you have been spoiled!
We don't feed Lucy until about 7am so it's not a matter of her expecting food when she wakes up at 5.45. She does seem to need a pee at 5.45am (although why it is always that exact time I don't know!). Mind you, having let her out and put her back in her crate I should be stronger and ignore her until a bit later on. Trouble is, she is upstairs in a crate and I wake at even the slightest wimper - there's no way I could sleep through the noise she makes. Nor can our older dog.....I found her this morning lying with both her front paws over her ears!
I can so relate to you on this one, my 8 mth old has been doing just the same thing for last week or so, waking us up at about 6 a.m - I thought it might be because the mornings are lighter and so she feels its time to get up - she definately needs a wee then too.
Be interesting to see what happens when the clocks change

Time changes throw our three cats and one dog and us for a loop. They love the Spring change, it means they get fed earlier. I think. It throws me too. Let's see, it's now 9:39 AM. So if I move the clock forward that would make it 10:39. But 10:39 is later in the day than 9:39. Is that right? I have to get the OH to help me with this twice a year. I wish we could just go on Daylight Savings Time and stay there.
