I can leave any food on the work surface and it won't disappear :D I left a chicken on there cooling last night and whilst I can't guarantee Willis didn't give it a loving lick, it was still there when I went to cut it :D Their bag of dog food is left open in the kitchen on the floor too and they never steal it... nor do they steal off the kids when they walk past them with biscuits etc :)
- By Goldmali Date 16.03.06 17:48 UTC
One thing I love about mine is feeding them. Big dogs together, little together, so currently 6 big dogs (used to be 7.) I put each bowl in front of them saying nothing, and they sit and wait and don't touch the food.Well Rambo  does a show stand instead. No command or signals, but they know what to do, then I say "okay" and the food is gone in 10 seconds flat. The 2 little ones do it too. Always makes me proud. :)
- By mygirl [gb] Date 16.03.06 18:04 UTC
Well one of mine has just swiped 8 slices of cooked bacon off the unit so i'm not proud of that!
(it wasn't even my fault it was my friends as she phoned me and took my attention away :D :D :D)

Seriously it has to be on the beach and their obedience they have turned into such super dogs, the days of them running off with no care in the world is a distant memory.
- By karenclynes [gb] Date 16.03.06 19:32 UTC
Yeah that always makes me proud with my girl as well - although she doesn't have the competition of 5 other dogs, but when I put her food down, she looks at it and then looks at me until I say 'ok' and as you say then it's gone in double time.  Another thing that made me think you are such a sweet heart was a couple of weeks ago, Whe we come in the the front door she sits down straight away on the mat and waits for me to get my coat boots of etc, then I say 'ok'  for her to get up and go.  Well a couple of weeks ago I got my boots off and went straight into the kitchen forgeting to say ok, after a couple of minutes I thought it odd that she hadn't appeared at my side, looked around the kitchen door to see her still sitting on the mat, and I realised what I'd done.  Bless her little heart!

Wow, that's amazing.  It wouldn't have a chickens chance in hell in my house if it was within reach, fortunately I'm unlikely to leave a chicken lying around on the floor when I go to bed even with my slovenly habits :)
I suppose the proudest moments for me are when we meet bouncy young things out walking. When we stop to chat the owners always compliment Amber's steady patience with them.  Of course she is really lifting one corner of one lip as she stands steadily wagging her tail.  I can see it, the other dog can see it but when the other dog grinds to a speady halt she turns her angelic face up to the owner and wags a little more and never allows them to see it allowing me to glow with pride in their praise of her .

Mine are like Chloe's - they don't steal food - at least Bramble used to when we first got him as he had been a stray, but hasn't stolen anything for about 4 years. Tara has never stolen any food in her life :)

Mine are both super-duper ball addicts. Each has their own favourite - Bramble loves a hard ball on a rope and Tara has a small football with ropes attached or a small football that's a bit squashy that she can carry in her mouth. When we go for walks they both carry their own balls. Tara is very athletic and leaps in the air to catch her football - she always brings it back each time and does a perfect 'present', time and time again :D :D

Same here with the food. Never steals food from kitchen surfaces.  Found a piece of toast on the edge of surface that one of the kids had left from breakfast.  I had been out for 4 hours and she didn't pinch it.  When we eat in the living room (more and more lately, tut tut will have to breakthat habit) she doesn't even steal off an unattended plate.  OH makes me cross as he will put his plate on the floor until he is ready to take it out.  Dog is then very tempted as she knows that she gets the scraps off our finished plates so I think leaving the finished plate on the floor is unfair, she is a dog afterall

MMMmm now let me see :D

May have to dig deep for this one

Well they really make me proud as they are so gentle and tolerant with Indigo :)

They do sometimes nick food but only if within their reach ie on Indigo's small table but would never nick anything from the kitchen work surface :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 16.03.06 19:09 UTC
Mine give very good cuddles and are good French kissers, even though I don't want to be French kissed :d

Urmmmm I won't go there with the food bit
- By newfiedreams Date 16.03.06 19:42 UTC
Hmmm, can agree with the French Kissing business, especiallt from Pepe, Tobey isnt TOO bad! can't say my Visitors like it...but heck, what do I care, keeps the riffraff away!!!LOL Proudest moment with Storm I suppose was getting a First at Crufts last year...Bless...! Other thing with her was passing her CGC Bronze at 4 months old...another Bless and you wouldn't believe it now!!! LOL  I also wouldn't go there with the food thing!!!
- By chrisjack Date 16.03.06 19:50 UTC
Im proud of my girl because even when she is being incredibly cheeky and testing, and pushing her luck, you know when they get a bit too hyper, i just say in a low tone "Fffllloooooo" (flo-name) and her ears prick back and she comes running to me- so sweet, im so proud of her because of how she has grown.
She was bred by a puppy farmer, all littermates died apart from her. She was bought by alcoholics who didnt have a penny to spend on her- fed on brekkies cat food. Riddled with worms.

Then at 4 months- SHE CAME TO US!! and now she is a happy, 9month old, who yet being through major operation due to malnutrition and bad breeding, she is just starting to show her true colours and i love her more and more every day. Im very proud of my girl xxx
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 16.03.06 19:44 UTC
Well, I would have said the food thing, and still can partly, as there is catfood on the floor within her reach every day and she never looks at it.  But just last week when I came in with the second load of groceries I saw the cherry danish container from the first load on the floor, open, and it was not little mini cherry danish IN it, but a big black happy Lab head.  It must have spilled out when I set the bag down.  After 13 years this is a first, so it must have spilled out and reminded her of the timbits she gets every time we go to Tim Hortons.  LOL.  I would liked to have had more than one for myself though.

Following on from CHloe's inspiring  post, I'm going to try and train my 3 springers to leave the Sunday joint, I don't have high hopes though , what a good boy Willis is :)

My 3 ignore fox poo unless I give them permission to roll in it first.

They never barge the cats out of the way and gulp there food down while I frantically dive across the utillity room to drag them away before they've necked it all down.

When I let them off lead on the beach full of seagulls they sit patiently waiting for me to release them before they go tearing across the beach like guided missiles on the track of the gulls.

When on lead they never wrench my arms out of the sockets when ever they decide they want to go a different way to me.

When we've been out and they've checked out every pond, muddy ditch and cow wallow on the way home, they point blank refuse to enter the house and grab the nearest sofa untill I've hosed them of and they're completely dry.

Aren't dogs great :D :D :D
- By kayc [gb] Date 16.03.06 20:42 UTC
Cant think of a single reason why I should be proud of any of mine at the moment.....She Devil, Spawn of Satan and Attilla the Hun should be sitting in the corner, hanging their little heads in shame....well, they would if they knew the concept :D :D :D  even the look of innocence come over as a smirk on those faces...and the rest of the gang a just a bunch of 'suck ups' Tia is an expert counter surfer....nothing is sacred....she even knows that turning on her side and getting her head upside down can extend the tounge length by at least another inch :D :P

luv em to bits anyway....so far ;)
- By ShaynLola Date 16.03.06 21:00 UTC
Might need to think about this one.....
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 16.03.06 21:04 UTC
I'm proud of the tri puppy I had in my last litter :d  I get phone calls and photo's off his new owner every week.  They are such lovely people and I can't believe how lucky I've been to find such a nice couple to look after my precious boy!  He may not be an accepted colour but his new owners think that he's the bees knees !
- By JaneG [gb] Date 16.03.06 21:56 UTC
a tri spanish...yummm....photos please :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 16.03.06 22:00 UTC
PM me and I'll e-mail it to you as your website isn't working so I don't know your e-mail address.  But don't laugh at him and his hairy eyebrows :d
- By mdacey [gb] Date 16.03.06 21:23 UTC
my Daisy is a counter sniffer too, cant leave any thing out within tounge reach,
she also chews everything you leave out ! Zoe her mother is an angel MOST of
the time, but has her moments she likes to scratch at the muddy grass and get,
loads between her toes, then go and jump around on my bed !!!  But when i take
them out the are the most well behaved dogs i could ever wish for around other
dogs and people.  Thats what makes me proud !  :-)
Also
Went around  to see Daisy's pups a few weeks ago they are 6mths now spent all day
driving around and visiting i was so proud seeing them all happy and settled and thriving,

(even though they were all naughty little monkeys and i came home full of mud )

Dont you just love 'em :-)

:p :p

Excatly why I was struggling to come up with anything :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.03.06 21:30 UTC
The kitchen worktops are a treasure trove as far as our dogs are concerned! Clover's very good in that, if she steals something, she brings it to you to show you ... Beattie and Piglet will steal things and take them to the darkest bed (if there are any knives missing that's where they'll be). Harry just eats what he finds when he finds it - he'll even take food out of saucepans on the stove if there's no lid.

But I'm very proud that when we're eating they don't scrounge and drool, but will lie quietly till we're finished. :)
- By pinklilies Date 16.03.06 22:24 UTC
I am proud of how well behaved my dogs are in public. They are very tolerant of strangers, and are particularly kind to children. I can walk them through noisy crowds, loud bangs and they are rock solid. They do not have an aggressive bone in their bodies. Considering they are mad dogs at home they never cease to amaze me. They are truly benevolant personalities :)
- By Jimbob Date 16.03.06 23:15 UTC
I won't mention food, they are St Bernards after all.But i'll share this with you all. When i introduced Gracie to Keiko, Gracie was 8 wks old, Keiko was 5yo. Keiko had a litter of pups 18 months beforehand. As soon as Keiko seen Gracie she lay down and stuck her stomach out to feed Gracie.
I thought, that's brilliant, 18 months later and she hasn't forgot her pups, (she thought Gracie was one of them). That sums up my St Bernards, they have massive hearts.

does'nt 'counter surf :D
Has however learnt that children in push chairs are a good source of dairly lea triangles, cheesy wotsits and melted chocolate

Proudest moment tho' was spent in pub Sunday afternoon,1 JRT barking hysterically all at other dogs,2 (large) retrievers, 1 retriever puppy:
He was unfazed by the JRT and also when the retrievers were introduced to the puppy in front (good place for a first meeting-middle of a busy pub!?) of our table and started growling,he sat calmly through all this and when the puppy spied his bone he allowed the puppy to take it and merely let out quite a comical *Deep sigh* got lots of attention from all commenting on how he was the best behaved dog....
All this from the Rescue who arrived at our home never having been socialised in his first year (kept in a shed:rolleyes:) and was a whirling dervish in the company of other dogs...lots of training..lots of patience..but mostly his willingness to learn and 6 months down the line Ive got the dog I knew he could Be.
:D couldnt be more proud of him.
- By slee [au] Date 17.03.06 00:21 UTC
im proud that without much training my girls pick everything up quickly im especially proud of my cavalier for this because she didnt have the best start and would have in all rights been a dog that would have rebelled. But when im in the yard with them and i want them to stop i just have to say stop and they both sit and look at me i say go and off they are again. Im very proud that my breeding girl is so tolerant of my cavalier who can get annoying for her when she is jumping all over her she never once growls at her she just gives me a look that say's get this bloody hairy thing away from me PPPPPPPLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE

I'm proud that despite being a novice (and at times, rather stupid) dog owner, my boy has learnt basic commands very quickly, will reliably leave food without touching it, doesn't harrass the cat (too much ), and is soooo gentle with my friends 2 year old son.

I'm going to join a class soon - we're going to have a go at our bronze good citizen, and then maybe silver. So we'll have loads more things to be proud of soon.

I'm just proud of him for being himself really :)

Well after a Sunday-peeing-on-the-carpet-day-from-hell, Roxy went a full night last night without going out to the loo. *beaming with pride*

Not to mention two other wonderful things that happened this week.

We're trying to do all our training on our left hand side (as advised by the puppy classes) and a few days ago I called her over and she immediately ran over and sat next to my on my left, facing the right way looking at me for the next instruction.

And last night, after a quick clicker training session where I'm training her to sit on a designated mat (going extremely well I might add) silly me forgot to put the mat back. After we'd had a play and a fuss I went into the kitchen to help with the cooking and after a minute or so I looked round and Roxy was sat on the mat two rooms away. looking at me waiting for me to notice. I actually got emotional as she had to sweetest most attentive look and must have been there for a few minutes. Clever clever puppy...

When I walk on the beach with my newfi and I get too close to the surf, he grabs hold of my coat and pulls me away from the water :) Ah bless.....he is looking after his mum and makes me feel all warm inside :D
- By HuskyGal Date 17.03.06 16:13 UTC

We took our 2 16 week old Great Dane pups to visit relatives last weekend - they travelled for 3 hours in the car without a murmur and behaved impecably while walking around a crowded sea side town.  We went to lunch in a pub and they spent an hour and a half laying under the table, just thumping tails when someone walked past :D :D :D

As for the other 3....... Lola is perfect (in the house at least!) Never begs, never steals anything and always does as she is told.  I look at photo's of her we took last May when we first saw her in a rescue centre and remember how she was then, and I am so proud of her :D

Freya is always by your side if you are doing anything in the kitchen, and will happily steal any food as soon as your back is turned.  She won't beg while you are eating though, and has produced a wonderful litter of puppies who are all a delight.

Casper - mmmmm! We have had so many problems with him since we rescued him, but he let me take something from him that he had 'stolen' yesterday. A really big step for him :D
- By Lori Date 17.03.06 16:12 UTC
That he is so gentle and patient with children. My friends daughter, she just turned 4, was terrified of dogs before she met Milo. After three visits, she says she loves all dogs now and walks around singing I love Milo, Milo loves me. He's helped other kids on his walks too. So, helping children overcome their fear of dogs makes me proud. :-D
- By STARRYEYES Date 17.03.06 16:56 UTC
what makes me so proud of my two are thier wonderful temperaments ..so friendly with everyone too trusting (for my liking) they think everyone they see wants to say hello and recieve a big kiss from them .
                                                    They just love life!

now counter surfing is another story..they think any food I leave out  is thier's and that my food is thier's and my OH food is thier's and that son's food is thier's and the cats food is there to share with them of course!!  ;)
