Hi all. All the pups are doing just great. Stars are now 4 weeks old tomorow. They are very lively. They have been eating for about 5 days. I have just been feeding them once a day but think it might be time to give them more. Keatahs pups are 3 weeks old in 3 days. They are just starting to play and are getting stronger on their legs. They are very big alot bigger than Stars the whole litter is very chunky. Keatah is a much more protective mother and even now doesnt like leaving her pups at all. I will be able to register Keatahs pups I was given permission last June and it stands for 12 months.
As anyone else got pups similar age. How are they doing?
hi Sharon, glad to here mums & puppies are all well & thriving !! when i wean puppies i feed them 4 times a day from 3 weeks old, they dont take much and still feed from mum too , but by week 4 they usually cry for their food every 4 hours and scoff it down with ghusto !! very greedy are dachshunds, even at that age lol :)
I'm pleased to hear all the puppies are fine and well Sharon :-)
How many are you keeping :-D
yes, hi. I've got a 4 week old litter at moment, doing very well. the only prob I have is the water situation. I give them a water dish and they just sit in it, play with it and just spill it all over the pen. what do you use to give them water?? p.s. mine are cairns.
My litter of Weimaraners are just 4 weeks old and doing fine on 4 feeds a day. Mum doesn't go to them much in the day, but does sleep with them at night when the babies get a top up from mum. I was worrying about water too, as they tip it over as soon as the bowl is filled. They do have quite a lot of moisture in their puppy food soaked in water or milk though but I do worry!
Hi, I have a litter of 7 who are coming up for 3 weeks. I am going to start weaning them soon and would be grateful for any suggestions on how you went about it. I also have one that is alot smaller than the others so hopefully will fatten him up when he goes onto solids. They are such timewasters aren't they. I can sit for hours just watching them. Mum has very sore lips which I think is from cleaning them but we are off to vets tomorrow to get them all weighed and wormed so I will ask him to have a look.
I use the top of a cassarole dish to both feed and water them. Its shallow but wide enough. They dont tend to drink much but its offered. I have now increased their feeding. They spend most of their time with their mother. But I make sure she gets several long breaks a day from them.
