WE HAVE JUST HAD OUR VERY FIRST LITTER OF PUPPIES AND AT 7 WEEKS OLD I AM NOW HAVING TO THINK ABOUT LETTING THEM GO. I HAVE HOMES FOR HALF THE LITTER AND AM QUITE WORRIED ABOUT ADVERTISING THE REST AND LETTING THEM GO TO PLACES AND PEOPLE I DONT KNOW. I REALLY DONT WANT TO ADVERTISE THEM IN THE LOCAL PAPER AND WONDERED IF ANYONE HAD ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE TO ADVERTISE ??

Does your breed club have a puppy co-ordinator?

What about the breeder of your bitch? I thought breeders let each other know if there were good prospective buyers looking for pups. KC advertises on their site which is where I started or what about the breed club where some prospective buyers start enquiring?

If all else fails and you are left with having to advertise in the paper do a phone interview first ask them all the questions that are improtant to your breed ask them why they want your breed if you arnt satisfied with the answers just tell them you do not want to sell to them. If they answer all questions and you are happy with their answer then invite them over let them view the pups but then have another long talk with them ask them how they will care for the pup training ect but dont let them choose a pup until you are satisfied with them.

THANKS. I E MAILED BREED CLUB BUT NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK YET. ITS BEEN GREAT FUN AND A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE BUT THIS IS THE HARD PART HAVING TO LET THEM GO. I AM KEEPING 1 AND 2 MORE ARE GOING TO FRIENDS BUT ITS THE OTHER 3 I AM WORRIED ABOUT. IM GOING TO RING THE GUIDE DOGS TODAY AND SEE IF THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN TAKING THEM, THEY ARE LOVELY PUPS AND I WOULD RATHER DONATE THEM TO GUIDE DOGS/HEARING DOGS ETC AND KNOW THEY ARE GOING TO BE WELL LOOKED AFTER AND HOPEFULLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEBODYS LIFE THAN HAVE THE WORRY AND STRESS OF ADVERTISING,VETTING PEOPLE AND THEN SPENDING THE NEXT 15 YEARS WORRYING HOW MY BABIES ARE!!

Hi Ali
What breed are they and are they KC registered?

In your post you state about contacting Guide Dogs for the Blind. Are these puppies Labrador Retrievers? Firstly tweo things come to mind - this is not be negative - BUT Guide Dogs these days take only from their own breeding programme or from selected sires. They will not take peoples excess puppies even free of charge as they are working from a programme of suitable lines.
hearing Dogs or Dogs for the Disabled might but really - just relax a little while, you don't need to give these puppies away if you have raised them correctly. They are only 7 weeks old, many breeders do not find homes for their puppies until 8, 10 12 weeks or longer. This is one of the things experienced breeders try and drum into new breeders, that puppies don't always walk out the door at 8 weeks of age, you have to be able to take your time in them going.
If they ARE labradors another hint is to CALL your breed club. Us Labrador people with email who actually read it very often are few and far between ;-)
If they are labradors I can certainly put you in touch with right person at your local breed club so please contact me privately on wylanbriarlabs@aol.com
Also, good advice on advertsing in the free papers. It may be worth it if you can nail the 'idiots' who call at the first phone call. Its hard picking the fools from the good homes though because someone may just be shy on the telephone but be super face to face. Noone ever said breeding in general and saying 'no thank you' to puppy buyers was easy but its essential.
The breed club puppy register is a good way to go, however be warned, unless you are already a member of the breed clubs many say you need to be a member for a year before putting puppies on their registers. It is done so that people who actually have an interest in taking a year to learn about the breed by maybe coming to events and so on do so before mating their bitch. However some don't have this stipulation so its worth getting in touch with me or them by telephone ideally to ask.
