i have just found out my mum has lung cancer. she is 61. as you can all imagine, i am in bits, i love her so much. i guess i am posting to ask if any of you have known anyone with this who have had treatment that puts this evil c word into remmision, to give me some hope. my mum isnt ill at all, she walks 5 miles a day with her dogs, she went to the docs because of losing her voice on a regular occasion & not been able to fully fill her lungs with air. she had a xray which showed shadows on both lungs & a biopsy taken. we go to specailist next wed after cat scan on thursday, for decision on treatment of chemo or radiation . may i ask those who believe , to pray for my mum.
thankyou
caron

I'm so sorry. I know how you feel as I felt in bits when my mum told me she had breast cancer. I was so scared and of course so was she and not forgetting my dad who took it very badly indeed. So all I could do was talk positively and encourage her to be the same. I don't know anyone who has had lung cancer but have a SIL who is being treated for breast cancer. My mum's friend had throat cancer and recovered, my OH's boss had testicular cancer & recovered, my neighbour had prostate cancer & recovered. It is such a scary disease but the point is you must try and be positive because the recovery rates in cancer are forever improving.
Sending you my positive thoughts :)
So sorry to hear this Caron
I'll keep your mum in my thoughts
God Bless to you both

Caron I am really sorry to hear your news. I hope everything goes well. I know it isn't lung cancer but my father has had cancer of the bladder for a year so I know how scary it is. You automatically think the worse when you hear that word. He has had radiotherapy for the last year but in the end he had an operation two weeks ago to remove the entire bladder (which they can do for bladders). He is now home and coping very well from what I can gather. He lives in Austria so I don't get to see him very often. I know people who have lung cancer and are still here so don't give up hope. Cancer is not always that evil word anymore. Things have come on a lot nowadays.
Again I am really sorry for you. Sending you lots and lots of hugs
I do not post much on here I am more of a lurker, but I felt I need to reply.
I am sorry to hear about your Mum. My Dad was first diagnossed with Lung cancer in 1992 I was 10 at the time, so did not really understand what was happening. He had to have his left lung removed and radiotherapy and chemo, he recoverd, but carried on smoking

even though he also had engina he lived a happy life, but unfortunately with him still smoking the cancer came back in his left lung, sadly he died august 2004 at the age of 57.
I know you must be devistated but you must be strong, docters are getting better and better at curing cancer. my thought are with you as I know what you are going through. sending you a big hug

Caron I am so sorry to hear about your mum :(. I can sympathise with you, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, and like you i was absolutely devestated. Sadly my mum died in feb 2003 after the cancer had spread. Like others have said though you must try to stay as strong as possible. It has only been 3 years since my mum died but in that short space of time medicine has come on leaps and bounds. My thoughts are with you and big hugs being sent to you.
Michelle
thankyou people for taking the time to reply, it really does help to know of your experiences , with a positive outlook . :)
There's also a small operation that your mum could have to improve her voice. My consultant specialises in this field and has many lung cancer patients come to him to help with the voice aspect of this.
Sorry I can't help you re. the lung cancer though

Sorry to hear about your Mum :(
We have had a spate of cancer in our family over the last few years :(
Two of which are still happily with us and in remission :)
I think a positive attitude goes a long way in how people cope with cancer :)
Wishing your mum all the best and also big hugs to you :)

I'm so sorry, Caron. You'll all be in my prayers.

Hi Caron. Sorry to hear about your mum, but please try and stay positive for her and remember she will need loads of cuddles just now, my late husband had lung cancer, he had a heart attack and if was not for having that we would not have know about the lung cancer as it showed up in the x rays. He had radiotherapy which helped a bit. He survived for 4 years after having 3 more heart attacks, but it was the heart that finally beat him, not the lung cancer. Prayers for you and your family.

So sorry to hear about your mom. Such a dreaded disease. My company makes imaging systems to help diagnose cancer so I spend a lot of time at the National Cancer Inst. website.
http://www.cancer.gov/ Most patients find they get very knowledgabe very quickly - I think it helps. At least you can have discussions with the doctor and understand more of what the options are. I wish the very best for you and her.
how awful caren, very sorry to hear your bad news. all you can do is to be there for her. my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 years ago at the time I found that I had ovarian cancer. it is a terrible time but so much can be done. it depends what kind of cancer your mum has as to the prognosis, but which ever way, never give up hope.
my thoughts are with you and your family.
angela

So sorry to hear your news. Sending huge hugs your way and I will certainly be praying for your family. Keep strong. xx

Thinking of you and your Mum - may you both be given the strength to cope with whatever life throws at you.
Remember that you can always come on here, have a good moan/weep, and we'll listen, give cyber hugs, and hopefully set you up for another day.

Again I am usually a lurker and dont really post much (only 1 dog with few problems/issues to post)
My mum has been having treatment for a brain tumour. Had radiotherapy this time last year. After an "all clear" MRI scan in october her last scan in Jan has shown "some changes" We dont know what these changes are yet and are quite worried, she has another scan hopefully next month then we should have some answers.
Just to let you know that I can understand what you are going through at the moment, my mum is only just (last week) 58 and it seems so cruel that she should be suffering like this.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your mum, yourself and the rest of your family.
Caroline
Hope you mum's OK too.
A friend of mine had two brain tumours and I know that she was something of a miracle as the type that she had it's unusual for people to survive it once never mind twice, she's still with us 20 years later. Has a few problems but she still gets on with life very well. She's always going out with new boyfriends etc.
