last night my dog found a bone in the park and would not let me get anywhere near her to get it back. she ended up eating a bit (about 3cm long and 1 cm wide) and i managed to get the rest. I have no idea if it was an animal bone or a cooked bone. This morning she has been sick, just a small amount. obviously i am a bit concerned. Should i take her to the vet or just keep an eye on her for now?

i hd a similar experience where mine found something and ate it defore i could stop it, 2 hours later he was sick and then was fine, i would give it a while and if she is not sick again and appears her usual self dont worry, dogs are scavengers and will do these things, if she is sick again after 24 hours after eating it then i would go to the vet. But please, i am no expert.if you are worried ring the vet, thats free!!!

She should come to no harm, having had this experience perhaps it would be a good idea to train your dog to come to you with anything it finds for permission to play with/consume said thing?
That way risks like this could be avoided.............. it could be something more deadly next time...........

yeah i know she should come back. how is the best way to train her to do this. she comes back for everything so far apart from bones! she knows the leave command and that USUALLY works if i see something first but didnt see this bone.

I've had the same problem with people leaving takaway leftovers - usually KFC bones or ribs from a chinese takeaway. My dog also found a fish in the park one day - still with its skin and eyes on

It's really frustrating that people cannot dispose of their rubbish properly.
my girl will pick up anything she finds and the vet advised me to muzzle her, but this is not an option I want to go down at this stage and would rather keep her on the lead until she learns the word 'Leave'. She does get sick every now and then, but I worm her every 3 months to avoid her getting anything nasty as a result of her scavaging.
