I have never put my dogs in kennels as when we go away either my family or a friend has looked after them for me, but on our wedding day all our family and friends are going to be there so wont be able to look after the dogs. My question is, if i put them in kennels, will they have to be vaccinated for kennel cough? Even if its for one day?

It depends on the kennel - ask them!

It is best to check with the kennels that you intend on going to. What is also a good idea is to check to see how long before going into kennels the dog would need the vaccine as this varies between kennel establishments too. The shortest time period before is 72hrs according to the Intervet literature but as I say, check with the kennels.

None of the kennels I've ever used has insisted on a kennel cough vaccination.  It's pot luck anyway as you may vaccinate and catch another strain of it :(

Some kennels insist, others don't.  But my vet told me that even with the vaccine there are many strains of kennel cough and it won't totally immunise your dog.

My dog has had kennel cough many times, a couple quite serious, but it is treatable and he has recovered with no long term effects. Your dog can get kennel cough from the park etc so I wouldn't worry too much about him going into kennels.  Just be satisfied yourself that you are happy where he is going.
