Good morning everyone, I have an 11 month old Rottweiler who up until yesterday has been fantastic with me removing food, treats and will even have a piece of cheese placed approximately 2 cms from her nose which she leaves until told she can have it but yesterday we gave her a meat filled bone as a treat (bought from the local pet superstore).  I tried to take it from her as she was making a complete mess and thats when it happened, she snarled bearing her teeth, growled and seemed to be like the demon from hell, obviously we did get it away from her and she wasn't allowed it anymore.  This morning we tried with her usual treats (nylabone, hide chews etc., etc) so we tried with this meat filled bone again and yep, same reaction.  Is this a normal reaction does anyone know?
thanks in advance xx

It is a "normal" reaction in that almost all dogs will display this behaviour over some object which has a high value in their eyes.

Is it "normal" as in "acceptable"?  No way - it's dangerous and you need to train to overcome it.

I strongly advise you to buy a book called "Mine!" by Jean Donaldson, available from Crosskeys books - she lists very detailed courses of action to take, progressing slowly from one step to the other to desensitise your dog to having things taken away.  It's an excellent book and goes into far more detail than we can here: http://www.crosskeysbooks.com/product_info.php?products_id=451

In addition, here are some links which might help you while you wait for the book to arrive:
