Hi, My neighbour works at weekends 12hr shifts and leave their dog in the house on its own all the time they are at work.It barks and cries sometimes but surely its not right or fare to leave a dog all that time on its own.No one comes to the house all day to see to the dog.During the week they take the dog to work with them.Is there anyone i can report this to.By the way its a gsd.

It's not morally right to leave a dog unattended for so long, but it isn't illegal. If the dog has shelter and water, and is fed, the RSPCA can do nothing.

Can you offer to take the dog out for a walk at lunchtime?

i would if i could but unfotunately the dog is very unsocial. She doesn't mix with humans often but when she does she is muzzled and she never mixes with dogs.I have tried speaking to the owner about her dog but she just isn't interested

12 hours is much too much! I think that's simply aughful... If the owners take him to work during the week, why can't they take him on weekends as well?

They work nights during the week and day shifts at weekends. They are not suppose to take the dog into work thats why at the weekends the dog is left from 7am till 7pm in the house on her own.Surely this cruelty.

I feel guilty leaving my girl for three hours to do the food shopping, let alone 12. Unfortunately as someone has already said, the RSPCA could only advise the owners to change but cannot take any direct action as long as the dog is fed, watered and has adequate shelter. I waited so long to get my dog, and I love her so much, it upsets me that some people take owning a dog so lightly, and irresponsibly. I know people can't help having to work, butt in that circumstance they shouldn't have a dog.

changing the subject slightly, my friend who has a GSD and a boxer, both old, was unexpectedly taken into hospital a week ago, her son lives with her but he chose to move out while she wasnt there to look after him and just pop back for 1 minute a day to feed the dogs. they are in the kitchen with the door open to the garden and no heating and no soft bed(because they eat it) I got a key after a few days and have been popping round.I phoned her each day and she was so concerned for her babies. it made me cry to see how lonely they were. Anyway to cut a long story short , today she was dischraged and when I rang her she was going to her boyfriends house and not going straight home. I couldnt believe it, i told her she should go home but what can you do. I am so mad:mad:

It is just beyond the way people treat animals.

and yet my friend would swear that noone could love dogs more than her, some people are no good at being responsible.

i have 4 dogs and only leave them for 2 hrs at a time.I understand people have to work but its a long time to leave the poor thing on her own for so long. The owner says she loves the dog but how can she if she treats her like this. The owner and her partner both work as security guards and take her into work with them when they are night shifts. That is the only time this dog is taken out.If they had children they would'nt be allowed to treat their kids like that.
