Hi,
I'm in the process of making a whelping box though have heard lots of different things as to what to finsih it with.
Some people say use polyurethane varnish, though others say it's toxic and I've also heard about latex paint though I don't know what the advantages of that are.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

I use "conti board" (available B&Q etc) in the white face finish. Needs no painting, easy to clean and hygenic.

thanks, that's really helpful. And are you sure that it's not toxic
We used large white plastic fascia boards, easy to keep really clean.

Not positive, no, but it is widely used in kitchen furniture, nursery fittings etc, and my pups have been succesfully raised in it over the last 10 years wihtout problem.

We use ship's varnish. After a litter the box is disassembled, disinfected and scrubbed. Then a couple of new coats of varnish go on. Puppies have chewed the front board so that it has had to be replaced twice and none of them has been poisoned or (fingers crossed) even ill, so I presume it is afe enough.
