just a rant after talking to a colleague at work today. She has 2 labs, bitch is 2 dog is 10 and she recently mated them. She thought it would be 'nice' to let the kids see a litter born! Have they been hip scored? i asked, no, she was going to hip score them but the bitch came into season early so she thought what the hell? she says she will score them after the pups are born so i said, what if they have high scores? oh thats ok, ill just sell them as pet labs. then i asked if she had any homes lined up? no she said, but they are keeping 2 for themselves. i asked if she realised keeping 2 siblings was a nightmare and she said, is it? i also asked her if she knew there were 201 litters for sale on the kc site at the moment? oh, she said, are there?
What can you do?  rant over.

I also have recently spoken to a colleague (who holds a very responsible job and who you would think would know better) who has mated his female lab.  I asked him if the families had been visiting the pups and I bet they couldnt wait to take the pups home, to which he replied "oh we havent got homes for them, that reminds me I have to put an advert in when I get home".  I was flabbergasted, so went into a rant about how many are in rescue etc etc......  He looked at me as if to say whats that got to do with me. 

For my own sanity if someone mentions mating their dog (recently one a staffy and one a rescue spaniel with a very bad temprement)  I have to walk away, people are either purely stupid or purely selfish.

I might add that a few years ago I saw and advert in my local Kwiksave free adverts for a litter of Labrador puppies, the sire was from a Championship show judges home, and the dam was from a home were the lady judges at Open show level.  You would think that people of the calibre would know better.  The mind boggles.
