Thinking of getting this (family in France - so we can talk for free !). Any do's or dont's that you know of ?. There seems to be so many phones to choose from (and headsets) and I think I'll have to take my chance with one - unless somebody here can recommend a good one !. My brother in France is doing the same (not much use if he doesn't really !)

I've got the free download version and talk to other skype using friends!  Not bad and BF uses it alot for work and his normally the first to complain about anything....

Is it as easy as that ?. Go onto the Skype website and just download it ?. Is it case of just buying a skype phone and sticking it in the usb or will there be other stuff to load ?. Thats the bit I'm more worried about - poor old pc gets a bit hot under the collar when I try to get it to do new stuff !.

Yup just skype website and click download.  It works similar to messengers where you just sign in (or it signs you in automatically) no special phone, wires or anything (except mic and speakers are needed, naturally!)

It does doesn't it.  They make there money by giving the services of being able to call landlines/mobiles from skype which does cost and also people calling your skype and also voicemail service however dead basic, free skype is excellent.

Although fall backs is you have to be at the computer, however you can still surf champdogs (and all other sites) so it's ok! :D plus you get conference calls for free, and can chat online aswell! :D

I have Skype because it sounded good in theory, but I forgot I don't like using phones... and Skype's no different :rolleyes:
We have family in South Africa and we use MSN to have webcam conversations with them, which works quite well.

I recently got a skype endorsed headset from argos.  they were a bit dearer than the other ones in the catalogue but you got free calling credit, virus protection software and the skype software.  I downloaded the skype software before this from the ebay homepage.  i haven't started using skype yet but the headsets in argos come in different formats.  i got the USB one but there was one that you can plug into the speakers of your pc I think.

We use Skype at work to talk to our factories in China :) It's very good and easy to set up - can't remember which phones we have - they are silver and orange :D The line is usually better than the normal phone line :)

Need to look into this so that I can talk to my daughter in OZ.  Costing me quite a bit in calls.  Couldn't wait for her to go but now missing her and find it hard not being able to talk to her when I want.  Mind you she phoned me few nights ago at 1am. I dashed downstairs thinking Oh no, emergency and she said "what size is a passport photograph?! :rolleyes: Did I just say that I was missing her? :P

I work for a huge broadcasting company and we actually use skype for some of our radio broadcasts.  it works really really well and it is of broadcast quality.  It's probably one of the best programs around.  i also use it at home and i don't use any special equipment...just a cheap pair of headphones with a mic attached and it works fine.  hope that helps  Leanne
