hi eveyone,my 3 year old bitch was mated on the 29 ,30 of january ,we got her scanned on the 24th of feb but vet said she could not see any pups but she might be carrying them high up .her teats are bigger than usual ,sleeping & eating much more than usual .due to get scanned again on monday any advice would be most helpfull

Well good luck we mated our girl at the very beginning of january, however 2 scans showed nothing, we had convinced ourselves she was, she had morning sickness her nipples went bigger and a lot more reddish and she became a lot more clingey.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you as the 24th was probably a bit early as that would of made her 26 days at the most (if my maths are any good) and most scans are only effective from 28 days or so i was told anyway as i said goodluck, i'm sending you lucky thoughts.

hi, i'm in the same boat got my girl scanned on day 28 and was told no pups (she would be on day 47 now from first mating) but still keeping my fingers crossed as she has a slight discharge, large teats and is sleeping more that usual. she seems to have gotten a little bigger around her ribs and belly but not loads. keep us informed and good luck

hi all,
well guess what, took my girl to the vets and got her scanned again because i wasn't convinced and she is in pup but with only 1 puppy for sure, might be more, but i'm just pleased i took her back or we would have had a shock when 1 popped out when we weren't lookin.
how common is it for dogs to have just 1 pup and will she be ok having just 1
any advice would be great thanks
jjr
I dont know myself but i have heard that bitches may not go into spontaneous labour if they only have 1 pup as there may not be enough hormones, she may need a section so you definately need to discuss it with your vet. Is she a breed that has small litters normaly?

Think it depends on the breed, I had one bitch who had 2 litters of 1 pup only & she was fine.
Don't be to sure the scan has seen them all, a friend had a maiden bitch showing 4 pups on scan. When they came she produced 9 large, healthy puppies! And she didn't look big until the very last week, but even then she held them high and you would never have thought 9.
