Hi, I hope you can help me here. Harvey is 6 months old and was 6.10kg when weighed yesterday at the vets. He's on naturediet and doing really well on it, the only problem I have is that he's really picky when it comes to eating. After trial and error, I have worked that he doesn't want 2 meals in a day but happily eats a meal at aboout 2pm. At the moment he is sat here munching a raw carrot with the rabbits! I have switched him to the adult varieties of ND and he eats 1/2 pack - is this enough? The feeding guidline states that he should have 0.8 of a pack per day but I know that ND guidlines are very generous. He also enjoys 2 bonio biscuits throughout the day. Will he be ok having just the one meal per day at 6 months along with his snacks and is 1/2 pack of ND enough for him? The vet nurse said that he's a perfect weight but I think that he looks a little skinny. Any thoughts from personal experience?

Thanks

Hi Hayley,

I also feed my puppy (6 months) on Nature diet.  Her weight id 19kg and for that she should be on between 1 and 1 and a half packs a day.  I give her one third of a pack twice a day but she also has JWB.  I think to an extent you have to be guided by your dogs and I think puppies sometimes are very hungry then the next day theyre not bothered.  For a Lab my pup is not that greedy.  When Harvey has finished his meal is he sniffing around for more?  That could be a sign that he needs a bit extra sometimes.  Im just about to change her onto the original receipe from the puppy food, as that was receommended by Nature Diet.  The only difference between the puppy one and the Original one is that they take out the egg.  Id tried her on the Chicken and carrots one and she was sick, even though Id only give her a bit with the puppy one.

I think a lot of it is trial and error and it takes time to suss oput your dogs needs, some like 2 meals others are happy with one.  She is definately more enthusiastic about the Nature Diet than the JWB - it must be the smell:rolleyes:

It healthier for them not to put too much weight on anyway and if hes showing no signs after a meal that hes still hungry I wouldnt worry too much, hes also getting the calories from the treats he has too.  You could always phone Nature Diet, there number is on the pack, they were very helpful to me.
