Would any body on here have anything positive to say about the science diet?
- By Val [gb] Date 02.03.06 13:25 UTC
Certainly.  It's excellent for increasing Vets' profits! :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 02.03.06 13:26 UTC
It's better than starving ;) - and the prescription medical diets have their place.

My puppy has taken to it, we tried it along with Nutro when weaning away from pedigree...he initially, I thought was going to go with nutro, but no, it seems he is favouring Hills, it is cheaper at a local feed store than at the vets but I dont want to do him a diservice if its bad:rolleyes:

What food does your pup's breeder recommend?
- By Dogz Date 02.03.06 16:05 UTC
What he was eating for several weeks, Pedigree puppy complete.
- By peewee [gb] Date 02.03.06 16:16 UTC
I know of quite a few reputable breeders who feed that

Our previous 2 dogs had Hills Science Plan (various flavours) on and off all their lives then settled on it for about the last 4 years and did absolutley great on it!  As with all foods, some dogs are best on some and others on others - it doesn't always follow that the foods deemed 'best' suit all dogs

Personally now I'd use the Natures Best over the normal Science Plan though :)

Hooray, I just needed to hear it wasn't all  bad. I did look at Natures Best but prefered the dry mix. I also dont suppose its a good idea to mess about too much trying all that are available.
- By Teri Date 02.03.06 16:39 UTC
Nature's Best is a dry mix, also by Hills :)

Sorry I was thinking Nature Diet which I feel is a bit like 'I might as well cook our own food' for him.... Do you think it would be too much to try and bring in that variety or would it be too different to soon?
- By Teri Date 02.03.06 16:52 UTC
I don't think chopping and changing foods a lot is in general a great idea but then again a strict regime of one food/one flavour isn't either IMO ;)   Give yourself and your pup time to settle on your chosen diet (which for him seems to be a variety of Hills from your earlier post) and then reassess the situation as you start to get low on supply.  If you're happy with the coat, condition, growth, vitality etc then you could always stick within the brand but vary the variety (hope that's not as clear as mud  :D )

regards, Teri

I had my dog on it for 2 1/2 years until I decided to look for something with better ingredients, for the ingredients it contains it should be selling for £10 less per 15kg bag is what I've been told.(comparing to what I feed now).

She did look okay on it.
- By Dogz Date 02.03.06 17:52 UTC
Thanks to you all:cool: I will stick to the brand and perhaps go with differing varietys then. He does also still get the occasional extra anyhow maybe a scrambled egg once or even twice a week. I hope that is okay just an instinct really that its good to do a little here and there.
Again many thanks Karen.

I sell hills and have been trained on nutritional courses by hills- and i believe their food is seriously overpriced! about £12 for 3kg of dog food, or £40/£50 for 15kg...
i couldnt afford it personally.

Natures best is far worse than science plan, and thats saying alot as science plan is not a good food by a long shot  Sorry i cant think of anything positive to say about science plan :(
- By peewee [gb] Date 03.03.06 20:57 UTC
But the Natures Best variety has more natural ingredients than the normal Science Plan so how can it be worse
- By peewee [gb] Date 03.03.06 21:10 UTC
I agree it is seriously overpriced - we used to stock up when it was on BOGOF   Plus our dogs were only little (Sheltie's) so didn't eat a great deal anyway

You can get it cheaper off t'internet though - I found the 12Kg bag of Natures Best Puppy for £32 and the 15Kg of Science Plan for £41...

I'll tell ya another good thing - sign up for a PAH Club/Magazine (in store or online) and you get vouchers through for £2 off when you spend £20 or more, £5 off for £50 or more and offers on foods, toys, etc for the animals you specify you have.  I've saved loads!

Note:  I do not work for PAH and support my local pet shop totally as they can get our dog food cheaper, but the vouchers are good :p haha
