[I have been feeding my 3 week old pups with Iams and Lactol but sadly they now seem to have gone off Iams. Does anybody have any other ideas? My bitch still keeps trying to eat their poo which makes her ill....is this normal? I am now restricting her access (4 - 5 times a day) but supervised so as she can`t clear up!.

When did you start weaning the pups and were they eating well before? I've never found pups to go off their weaing food once they had got the idea of eating from a dish. Are you whizzing the Iams in a blender with the lactol or soaking it very well in warm lactol/water so that the pieces of kibble go into a soft porridge? Sorry fo the questions, but more info would help give a proper answer.
I've never restricted the access of a bitch, especially at just 3 weeks, and while some bitches will keep on cleaning up after the pups are weaned, I've never had one that was sick as a result, so perhaps a visit to the vet might be in order.

Have you just wormed them? I find pups do loose their appetite somewhat when wormed,a dn of course this coudl also make the bitch loose, especially if she has had her own dose too..

I don't generally start weaning pups till they're three weeks (unless it's a larger litter of 10 pups or so). At what age did you start weaning them? Once they start solid food the poo changes, but at this young age Mum still feels the need to clean up - perhaps you're taking things too fast? I
never restrict Mum's access to the pups - and at this young age they need plenty of fluids - can they get themselves to a waterbowl and lap properly yet? If not, they
need Mum's milk.
I have never restricted the mum from 3 weeks of age.
I always wean mine onto raw meat. They love it and wean very well. I then gradually put them over to Arden Grange. Just because its a good gluten free diet to put babies onto. Does Iams contain Gluten? Its very rare for puppies to go off their food if they have started to wean. They usually go from strength to strength.
I had only one litter many years ago now that would not wean, they were 4 weeks and would not look at porriage, or any or the weaning foods. Scrambled eggs they turned up their noses. So I spoke to this breeder and she said go to the butcher and get a meaty bone and scrape off the meat. Put down in front of the pups and see what happens, then call me and tell me how you got on. I called her and said, I cant believe it, they stuffed it. She told me that in the wild a mother dog would bring back her kill to the nest and the pups would just pull off little scrapings of meat. This all made sense to me, so I start puppies off the same way now, and have had excellent results. One large litter I had I offered the meat at 3 weeks and they took to it straight away.
