Found this on dalmatians:

Fascinating.  Thanks for posting the link.

I've liked all the mismarks I've seen posted so far :) I also love the brown & white 'landseer' Newfies that crop up from time to time and the long coated Rotties that someone posted about recently :)

Very interesting - particularly liked the tris and the longhairs! :-)

It's interesting reading 'outsiders' opinions. :) As a breed fan, many of the variations  make me cringe and think "What a shame". ;)

I think that's hit the nail on the head,  Breed enthusiasts are passionate about the breed standard and maintaining quality of a breed for future generations.  'Outsiders' finding the differences attractive may begin to explain why pet people are attracted to the 'rare' colours and markings that turn up in various breeds??

Ahhh, but were they so rare?  Were they not just bred out because someone decided that they didn't like them?  Just like to put a different slant on things now and again :d :d

In Pomeranian's they don't accept black and tan but I was told by an old breeder that if you put them to a black or a red that you would get the lovely red that has disappeared in the breed nowadays.

I understand when a certain colour has a health risk to it, but I just wonder who finally decided what colours were acceptable in some breeds but not in others.

Just a really fascinating subject really.

Very good point - also who decides when a new colour is acceptable?  In dobes it intrigues me, as although albinos aren't acceptable due to the myriad of health problems (and rightly so, IMO), blue and fawns are acceptable - despite the high prevalence of coat problems and skin conditions.  It is a great subject, definitely!

I know Breeders must be a bit disappointed when a mismark crops up as good breeders are obviously trying to avoid anything that deviates from the standard. Nothing stopping them from being a nice comapnion for someone though ;)

I obviously wouldn't be in support of deliberatley breeding for the for 'novelty' value and marketing as 'rare'.

"Mystery Puppy
This pup does not fit any of the above categories.
This white pup is from a litter of registered Dalmatians. He was a deaf pup that was donated to Dr. Strain..."

I don't like the sound of that!  What's this 'doctor' gonna do with the little lamb?
