Last week at ringcraft my IWH did a wee when some one was going over him. He did it last night again, 4 times! When it was match night last week at ringcraft it was a Scottish judge. Not sure if he picked up on this coz our vet is Scotch and he didnt like him looking in his ears when he was younger and it really freaked him out. But it was people he knew looking over him last night and he still did it. He is ok if people fuss him before I take him up to stand him. But when he is standing and they come towards him he freezes then wets. He has been going every week since he was 3mths and is 6 mths this saturday. Any ideas?

The only thing I can suggest is to get as many people as you can to go over him, giving him a treat at the same time. You don't have to have him gone over properly, just a quick, gentle feel over his back to start with, more like stroking him with two hands. Once he's got used to being handled again you can go over him a bit more. Don't make a fuss of him if he pees again. Just ignore the fact. Do this when you take him for a walk, when someone comes into the house, any time you can. But only let them go down his back the once, giving him a treat as they start and once they are finished. Tell them not to make eye contact, and make it seem as if it's almost a second thought for them. Someone else might be able to help you with better ideas, but that's how I'd start with him ;)

Thanks for the reply LindyLou. He doesnt do it when people stroke him or come to the house. Just seems to be when he is at ring craft. He's had no bad experiences there and is confident with other dogs and not timid. I was running him outside our house last weekend (coz he's been pacing!) and a total stranger stopped to fuss him and he didnt pee. I thought he would have done this when he was younger and ringcraft was new to him but not after 3 mths of going. He's had no bad experiences at ring craft and he loves going. Thanks.

If he is only doing it at ringcraft then I would take him, but let the people running it know he has a problem just now (I was going to say a wee problem - as in little - but decided against it ;) ) Ask them if you can just stand him and talk to the 'judge' while the judge ignores him. Then move him. After doing this for a while, so long as he doesn't wee, then ask them to just stroke him or make a fuss of him, but not to go over him. Hopefully after a few times of this (over a few weeks) he should get over it. I take it you've had him checked out for infection? He could also be starting to grow up a bit and his hormones could be over-exciting him. :D Males do tend to wee more than bitches. Unfortunately :( :)

Hi LindyLou. No he hasn't been checked for infection because he wees normally anyway and not doing more than usual. I had other people go over him who he hasn't met before and he didnt wee. My mum, sister and her hubby have just left and they brought their two 5mth border terrier pups with them and he didnt wee. Her hubby hasnt seen him since he was 8 weeks old and he went over him and no wees. Personally I think he is just going to be doing it in the ring craft hall which is the only place he has done it in. Still a puzzle with him been going for so long. Regards.
