Can anyone please give us any advice, we currently have an 18 month old labrador who is still very Puppy loke and probably will be for some time.  We have had her since she was 10 weeks old and are really enjoying every moment with have with her.

We are considering getting a second dog, can anyone give us any advice to how hard this might be, and if we should look to get the same breed or something different.

My husband and I are eager to try and give a dog a home from the local dogs home but are worried about the temprement such a dog may have.  We have been very lucky with our current dog as she is mainly very well behaved and has been very quick to learn all the good habits -(though some cheeky ones have crept in!!)

Thanks
Alexis

I would go for an older male rescue say about 3 to 5 years old or so, one that is well behaved and will be a steadying influence.

Otherwise I would wait another year or so before getting a puppy of either sex when she has grown up properly, and can be a good example to another pup.

I would also go with an adult dog rather than a puppy or a bitch.

Rescue homes typically find out as much as they can about your household and the behavior of your current pets, don't be too concerned about what temperament the new dog will have.  A rescue won't place a dog with you unless they think it will work out.
